A compiled list of the most productive “web-wandering” sites with descriptions and insight.
We all find ourselves unintentionally “interneting” at times. Whether it’s at the office, in a class, on the road, in a plane, on a train, or at home inside (perhaps due to rain?), wandering on the web is inevitable. Actually, even as I write this I am at work. Checking social networking sites repeatedly gets old fast, but that can be a thing of the past with these five amazing sites. Lets face it, the internet is an unbelievable resource, but often finding worthwhile material is difficult; but don’t worry these five sites have made it easy for you.
Here are the best five sites on which to pass your time learning, earning, searching and discovering.
Craigslist
Founded in the late 1990s by Craig Newmark, Craigslist is a network of online communities where you can find anything you could possibly imagine, anywhere you can possibly imagine. Simply select the region of interest, and immediately you can browse the region’s classified advertisements, upcoming events, items for sale, services people are offering, and participate in forums. The quantity of material and the knowledge you will find is unbelievable and inextinguishable, as it changes between regions and is systematically updated.
Stumbleupon
The entire purpose of Stumbleupon is to discover interesting websites and then share them with others. Stumbleupon is a toolbar that is easy to install and can be downloaded from http://www.stumbleupon.com. Once installed every time a user clicks the Stumble button he or she will be taken to a random webpage related to the preferences selected. Like it? Click the thumbs-up button which boosts the page’s popularity. Don’t like it? Click the thumbs-down button and people will be less likely to stumble upon it. Then what? Simply click the Stumble button again, and off you go… Plus, Stumbleupon has a variety of filters which allow you to stumble just images, Wikipedia, videos, news articles and others.
Fark
Fark is community website that hosts daily news articles and other various materials. Readers can submit links to interesting articles, and also comment on existing articles. Get the strangest current sports stories, political happenings, and business events with Fark. Fark is the place to be if you want to find out what’s really happening in the world today.
Flickr
Flickr is an online community that hosts videos and images. With Flickr you can upload photos, browse photos of friends and family, or just browse photos to your heart’s content. Users can add tags to images which makes browsing photos quick, easy, exciting, and fun. Hosting over 3 billion images, Flickr allows you to see the whole world from your computer.
Triond
Triond allows users to publish material and receive royalties from advertising. What can you publish? The report you just finished, a photo of your dog, a poem you wrote, a review of a movie… just about anything. Publishing is easy and fun with Triond, and the results are real. Create content, submit it to Triond, and earn money based on the page views your piece receives. Triond is also a social networking site which allows you to make friends and view other works that have been published.
