Too much information and too little time. How can you or any person make more room for information in less time? The answer is to filter the unimportant things. Learn more inside this article.
It takes a lot of discipline to limit the amount of information you are exposed to online. Information will come to you in forms of audio, video and text.
Each of those mediums will come in websites and emails. The hardest of all to filter is the information you get from search engines. Since 99% of the people will use a search engine to find anything on the web, it’s very important to have the right search box.
The problem is you do not have enough time in your Life to read all the information, to see all the videos, to listen to all the pod casts, so you need to select just a few, and only the best ones.
Starting with email, read only the critical messages. Ezines you subscribed to just leave them there, do not even filter or unsubscribe them unless you can swim in time or gold. Just skip them. Only critical messages that require decision and instant action and that make major changes in your life really deserve attention.
Cut all the news. Everything you read on the news have little value, plus they make no difference after just a day or two. Pick on any newspaper and see the value they give you after a week.
If the news are really important they will come to you later. You have no choice then.
Google Reader is now a major time eater. I know it’s good to stay informed about the sites you care, about how to make money, about how to improve your skills, but if you take a look, you can see that you can improve much faster by doing and you can earn much more by doing than by reading.
Now I do not read Google Reader anymore.
Sure you will miss some important things, but before you knew these sites they made little difference to you, and those things you miss by not reading are NOTHING compared to what you can miss if you just stare at those letters. Learn by doing instead. trial and error are the greatest professors on earth.
Google, Yahoo and Bing are the best search engines in the world. Bing seems to give the best results overall thanks to their decision algorithm and the chances are they will improve much faster and better than Google.
They only have one little disadvantage: They do not offer specific search like Google does.
For general search search use Bing.
But for the most important searches it’s better to use a Customized Google Engine like my Nyx. It will only search sites you already know and visited, giving you always results you can trust blindly.
Last but never least is the important of reducing all the intake in your brain that will come from every corner of your screen. Remove all the icons you see on your deskbar. Remove all the folders and icons from the Desktop and remove the Firefox Bookmarks bar.
Leave only the tools you really need to get the thing done right now. Things you might need in the future are not necessary as the future changes just too fast these days.
Firefox with no marks or distractions, a clock and the Shut down button is all you need these days.
Bruce Lee said that it’s more important what you do not do, than what you do.
Do only the important, leave the unimportant undone.
