This article will discuss the negative effect of a poorly developed website, broken links, poorly written content. It will also show you how to turn it around and allow your website (ROI) to work on your behalf.
Websites are created everyday to provide important information, sell products and/or services, or to entertain whomever decides to visit your webpage. When creating a website you must think of it as an ROI (return on investment) if you’re looking to make it profitable for yourself. For example just like a retail store has a way of positioning their products, keeping the store organized for the customer, and providing customer service for those in need of assistance to find what they need you must do the same on your website. Why do retail stores do that? To provide comfort and build trust with their customers that’s why! Without trust and comfort you can’t get them to spend their money in your store unless they really need that specific product.
A website should be clean-looking, easy to navigate with all important topics upfront, and provide information about yourself so that the potential customer can use to contact you for any questions.
What’s a clean-looking website?
A clean looking website is a site with not too much dark background and bright wordings that could blind people if they try and read your content. It should have neutral colors and look inviting, if you’re a business sticking with lighter color backgrounds and darker words will definitely increase trust in your visitors. If I could suggest look up color marketing which is an excellent technique used by phone companies and even Mickey D’S. For example: Verizon = red, Sprint = yellow, At&T = orange, etc… will definitely increase visitor trust because they will be familiar with your colors. Another clean-look would be nice quality images with no distortion, contents correctly sized, and links that actually take you where it says it will take you. If a visitor clicks on “help” the page should redirect to your “help page” and not your “contact us” or a “missing page…. page cannot be found”. Information about what your visitors came to your website in the first place should be clear and if you’re selling products the more information you have about it the better.
What do you mean by “easy to navigate with all important topics upfront”?
Navigation is key, now and days people do not have the time to sit down and enjoy a good reading as you are doing now if they need the information or product quickly. If you are providing information to your visitors then put all the commonly asked questions/information in your homepage or provide “quick links” on the side of your website to navigate to that page. Use Google’s search box and add tagged keywords to help your visitors search for specific information as well very useful. If selling a product add the ones that are really selling on the homepage and create a box list of everything you have and separate them to their proper category.
Make sure your customers read your terms and conditions and also add icons of the check-out service they will be using so they can do research before providing their credit card information to you.
Provide information about myself?
Writing blogs on your website or creating a simple page with just information about you and your company is enough to get your visitors to feel comfortable with you. Most importantly to feel that they are keeping updates of the company’s growth, where it comes from, and what’s your background. Providing a phone number, e-mail, fax, and if it applies your address to get in touch with you in case something is not to their expectations or if they simply have questions. Always be available to your customers, if you’re not they will not want to do any further business with you and you’ll eventually start to lose all credibility.
Your website is your calling card, your profile, your business, and your self-promoter. When developing a website if you are hiring a professional website designer make sure you let him know all your views and don’t allow him/her to give you a website that is less than of quality.
