E-Mail: Much More Than a Messaging Tool

Let’s explore the power of this old tool.

Email came around in the 80’s. Basically it was a way or protocol to send messages through the internet. It had many advantages. The messages were sent instantly, unless the server was down of course, it was free, but most of all you could send millions of messages in just some minutes with powerful servers.

At that time the internet was just a very basic network of computers mostly used to share messages and information. Today it’s much more than that. Compared to the computer itself the email continued almost the same, but still it is the number one service or tool used in the internet.

Let’s see what it can do.

  • Sending thousands of messages to people you know. Most people only send messages one by one, but this si somewhat old fashioned. You can use the CC and the BCC form to send the same message to many people. Imagine if you are going to have a party, you ca send the same message to everyone. Imagine if you are spreading some news, you can send the same message to many people in your list. The most important use of this CC and BCC form is to send many money programs to friends who are more than glad to join you!
  • Email is required to register in any site around the web and is the number one way to keep in touch with people. This means that as long as you keep someone else’s email, you will have direct contact with that person forever, or as long as you are not marked as spam. Very few people understand this power.
  • Email has unlimited space these days. Yahoo, AOL, AIM just to name a few do not meter your inbox space, they say you can save there all your photos, videos, movies, information, in any way you want because you will never run out of space.
  • Finally you can use it to send universe class security messages that not even the US Government can read using just a very simple encryption program, such as Winzip Outlook companion.

Email is really the most important tool on earth, now here are some advanced uses for it. You will be totally dependent on it once you start using these tips below:

Use your email to store all the information you will ever need. Instead of opening a new Document or a new Note, you can just compose a new message and send it to yourself. You can give it total security with Winzip or with True Crypt plus you can send that information instantly to anyone you will ever want. This has the advantage of having available lots of programs to work with email such as Thunderbird, Zimbra and so on, plus email is the number one middle man between people and sites, so since it will be always on and will be always more developed by the experts, you can be sure this will be always compatible with anyone, unlike Word documents and other formats.

Your email should contain all your photos too. You really do no t want to have your hard disk full of Jpg files and your hard disk always running to retrieve all those photos when you want them. Email can store all your photos and make them searchable instantly plus you can preview them all in some email applications such as G-Mail. With Google picasa you can easily send all your photos to email in no time.

Music can be stored in email as well, you just need to search for Mp3 or the name of the music and then just let the email play it. G-Mail has a dedicated player just for music.

Passwords are much safer in email than in any other place. Here you know you will never lose a thing. You know that you just need to type “my passwords” or any other search keyword to retrieve all your life in a fraction of a second.

WebPages and sites you like can be stored on email too. Just use the Google Toolbar to send that message to yourself. The email will then make it searchable instantly too.

I can’t believe just how useful this tool really is. After search, this is really the second best thing ever invented in the computer world.

Leaving all your information in the hard disk has many advantages, but ever second elapsed decreases the power of such advantages. Just to name a few, the amount of computer memory doubles every 12 months. The processing power only doubles every 18 months, which means computers are getting more information than they can digest, making them slower every year. Keeping your information with your drive is also very risky because 99.99% of the hard disks around there are NOT encrypted. This means they are totally vulnerable if someone steals the computer. All your passwords, videos with your family and mate and all your confidential information is now almost public. Another reason is the money, if you want to increase your information storage and speed you need to spend a lot of money with computer hardware whereas in the email you just need to fill it.

Email also has the advantage of being totally integrated with every site of the web. You can almost always see the Share By Email button so if you like a page just send it to yourself or to friends and that information will be with you forever unless you delete the message.

What a gift email is!

The only thing in the future that email needs is more tools to work with.

The ultimate advantage of using the email to store everything is that you only need one search box to search your entire life, and you will never ever lose one file again.
