There are chat rooms, which have an ‘ignore’ function, which is like a ruffian on the street who wants to see some reaction and if he is ignored, he can get exasperated. You can move pass while he talks unheard. 

It is vital for the parents to take interest in the online activities of the child. You can find out the service have registered in and you can also join to know what is happening there. Teenagers consider themselves to be upcoming adults, who are different than their parents and if you are a conservative, they want to be liberal and vice-versa. You don’t have to join them as an equal but must be aware of what is happening. You may hear complaints from them but furtively they are happy that you care. The kids are not able to measure the standard if parent allow them to do what they want. 

There is one more problem in a chat room that an individual can have a serious relationship with a person they don’t know and can’t even see. There is an element of fantasy here and you are able to express freely, thinking you have finally found a soul mate. The illusion may go on even after you meet them, till you realize that she or he is also human and behaves in the same way. 

We see hope with the coming of inexpensive digital video cameras, broadband and internet phones when people will not be able to hide.
