Who knows what you will find: information, documents, photos, and other things that you weren’t supposed to see!

This article will take a look at behind the scenes of a website, what things they leave unprotected and what you can find out about the website that others may not know about.
You could discover documents that contain secrets, other files that may be out date and were on the website years ago, but still exist in their directories.

Some fun things that you may be able to discover from this are: photos, videos, sound clips, music, text document, secret web page links.

  1. First we need something that is from the directory that we will lurk through. Right click an image and select view image. Note, you can also drag the image directly into the URL bar, this is useful as it also works for “right click disabled websites”.
  2. Your browser will show nothing else but the image on a white background. On the URL bar study the address. Each /section/ means another folder, this informs you of a directory. The URL may look like http://example.com/images/435.jpg.
  3. Play with the URL by erasing the /435.jpg so you end up with http://example.com/images and press enter to confirm request of the webpage.
  4. Here we will discover if the website leaves it’s directory unprotected. If it gives an error message its a fail and you will have to try another site. If you get a new page saying directory in the title you’ve found what we have been looking for.
  5. Explore! Click around to find files, sub folders and access higher folders by clicking parent directory.
  6. Use this wisely and don’t get yourself in trouble!

Have fun!
