How the Internet has changed our language.
As we all know the birth of the Internet has brought about many changes in the way we live, work and communicate today. And while some employees still punch a time card, others log in to a computer to get their work day started.
But apart from this, another interesting feature that the internet has introduced us all to, is a set of words and phrases we now use on an everyday basis. Words such as email, internet, online, website, the world wide web, and a host of others.
In addition, names of computer accessories inventors or computer corporations also quickly became household names as well. Names and companies such as: Microsoft, Apple, Dell, HP/Compaq, IBM, that are closely associated with such personalities as: Bill Gates (Microsoft) Steve Jobs (Apple) and so on.
And other Internet related words have managed to seep into our everyday vocabulary as well. A few of the words that are used frequently are: ezine (online magazine or newsletter), e-commerce (online business), eBay (online selling/auction website) document (professional letter, article, essay, or anything else that incorporates the use of a Word program), webmaster (person who builds/manages a website), Google (a popular search engine), MP3 (music file or song), ebook (a book created as a downloadable file), and many more that are too much to list here, but one gets the idea.
As cool and progressive as this technology becomes, so will the world we live in and language may be evolving every second, everyday, every week, and no matter how gynormous our everyday language becomes, we will adapt to suit. Just as we have adapted to this Internet lingo we use everyday.
Just a little something to think about next time you text someone (write someone a message using your cellular telephone…)

It’s been a long road from log drums to the inter-net. When I was born telephones only had 4 numbers, Philo Farnsworth as still a boy. I have been privileged to see all this come about, God I’m lucky.
