Buying designer clothes online is only risky if you are not careful. I would never recommend buying designer anything on any online auction site, unless of course a verified receipt is provided with the item. These issues seem to affect designer handbags mainly; however I have heard some horror stories involving clothes as well.

Off the top of my head I would say that buying designer from outlets such as net-a-porter, koodos or indeed the designer’s home page (for example the Paul Smith online shop) would be the least risky way of shopping online for designer clothing. This would only mitigate the risk of receiving counterfeit items, it would not mitigate other risks involves, such as damaged items, items lost in the post or items that do not fit or flatter. These risks are increased by buying online as it is rare for free returns to be offered unless it can be proven that the damage existed before the item was received.

Another safe way of buying designer clothing is to visit an out of season designer bargains website such as Brand Alley. These items are authentic and are being sold off at up to 70% off. It can be a bit hit or miss however as often the colours and sizes are limited.

Personally I would not buy designer clothes online – probably because I enjoy the shopping experience. I find that shopping online doesn’t give the same satisfaction. Also item photo’s often don’t do the item justice. Some clothes which are delightful in real life seem to look dull or unflattering in the photo. Or they look amazing on the model, but don’t suit your body shape. It’s also impossible to check for loose threads and patterns that are not correctly aligned. Properties that don’t quite make the item faulty but that mean a great deal to me when I am wearing the clothes.
