Website Traffic vs. Blog Traffic
While working on my website for the past several days (and not posting anything here at Triond), I pondered how come my website gets a lot of traffic while my four blogs did not give me much referrals as I expected. My website gets a higher rank each day while my blog views are erratic.
I thought about it for a while then something struck my curiosity. Does it have something to do with the meta tags which facilitate search engines to discover the website? Meta tags can be entered and edited in my website. It must also be true to my blogs.
How Meta Tags are Incorporated in the HTML Template
I surfed the net (and was thankful) because indeed meta tags are important in increasing page views in blogs. Adding meta tags is so important if you want to get more website traffic from search engines like google, yahoo, bing, among others.
The one I read about is applicable to a blogger platform, but which may be true to other platforms as they are encoded similarly in html, i.e., having a head and body. To enter your meta tags, log-in to your Blogger account, click the Layout option and choose Edit HTML. Just under the tag, you will find (see the line highlighted in red box below).
This is where you will paste the following html code for meta tags:
Now, the template will look like the one below.
Don’t stop there. You need to change the ‘DESCRIPTION HERE’, ‘KEYWORDS HERE’, and ‘AUTHOR NAME HERE’ with your short description of your blog (short means a single sentence or a few sentences, not paragraphs), your relevant keywords (better use Adwords Google here to guide you), and author name. Of course that should be your complete name which you usually use in writing your blogs. Don’t meddle with the other words in the template, only those in CAPITAL LETTERS.
After doing so, save your changes by clicking the Save Template button (in orange) below the html code.
When I did these things, I immediately got more views on my two blogs within 5 minutes (I did not apply it to the other two to serve as my control or baseline just so I can make a comparison). It worked! Well, of course, that added more page views to my articles. How? I opened my Google Analytics page and saw my blogs started to contribute more page views to my web site traffic.
This is a must-do for everyone doing blogging. Try it and see immediate results.

Curious though that Google by its own statement ignores META-data in web pages due to rampant abuses in the past. That Blogger is owned & operated by Google I’m sure that the rules with them and theirs are different…

Patrick, I have tried to use meta tags in the past, and since blogger is set up in a way that only one html code is used for the entire site, metas are seen as duplicate descriptions. I have had personal experience with this, and I can tell you, this will drop your pagerank in a flash.

This is great information. I just edited my blog layout, following your instructions. I can’t wait to see if it works!
I am knowledgeable in the use of meta tags, but I am not sure this should be applied to the blogger html code, as Lauren points out above. I will experiment with it and see what happens. I would advise anyone who tries this to backup your blogger code first in case you want to reinstall it.
I’d be afraid to try this as I am so computer illiterate I would probably completely disable my blogs. Your pictures and instructions were great and it is tempting.
