Web Talk

This must-try list contains a great collection of fun and useful websites that I think everybody should be familiar with, and try at least once. Keep these on hand for everyday use.

I believe that once you try these sites, you won’t be disappointed and some of them may even become favorites that you will use everyday. There are sites here for the office, sites for the music you love, a fitness site, and some just for fun.

K7

Create a phone number online. You can personalize its greeting to receive callers. When they do call, you receive e-mail notifications, and you can download the message to be played on your computer. Now you can stop wasting so much time checking your phone, your fax, and your answering machine.

Deezer

Perhaps the best free music site ever. No download is required, and a wide variety of music is readily available. If you can’t really decide what to listen to, start a smart radio based on some of your favorite songs. Deezer will play songs similar to the ones you chose.

Spy Pig

Have you ever sent an e-mail to someone and wondered if the recipient has read it? Now you can be more than curious, and actually find out with SpyPig.

Polycola

Use multiple search engines at once on one site with Polycola. You’ll sure to be find what you’re looking for. Be sure to check out FireFox HOT. Now you can add PolyCola to FireFox Search Bar with just one click.

Sparknotes

This site is for the students. Notes are given here for almost every work of literature there is. You can get your test prep here, as well as access a very well done section about Shakespeare, which includes his sonnets and plays. Did I mention that his full plays are on the site, and that they’re translated so that the average person can read them?

Calories Per Hour

Keep track of all of your personal fitness here. Calculate your BMI, calories burned in a day, weight loss in a day, and much more. There is also a diet and weight-loss section here. Great for those who want to calculate calories and nutrition, as well as find some great health tips.

Free Rice

Think you’re smart? Think you’re smart enough to feed hungry children? Then check out this site. Play a simple word game to donate rice. A word will appear, and ask you for the definition. Every word you define correctly is 20 grains of rice donated. Expand your vocabulary while feeling good about what you’re doing.

Kongregate

For many people, games are great for relieving stress, competing with friends, or simply just to kill time. Kongregate is a site that contains most of the best free online games out there. Unlike other gaming websites, this site contains badges, which are attainable after completing an achievement in a game. This may not seem like much, but it definitely has its advantages. Now you have a clear cut idea of your progress and it gives you tangible goals to work towards in a game.

Prize Rebel

If online games aren’t your thing and you prefer console games more, this site is for you. By completing free offers, you earn points, which you then can redeem for various gaming equipment, shipped straight to your house. Don’t believe me? There are many testimonials, and I myself have received a Nintendo DS game.

Just so everybody knows, the links to the sites above are in the titles. So clicking on the title of K7 would bring you to the K7 site.

  2. Rockstar Sid Says:

Man that’s awesome.. how do you find them.. it does take lot of experience.. thanks for this awesome sites!

  3. What Says:

None of these sites are handy. Seems to be loosely veiled advertisements….

  4. thom Says:

I think this is quite a handy list. I’d probably add wikipedia! And MusicRadar.com is extremely handy for people who like playing or making music.

  5. Chuck Says:

K7 looks interesting, but I’m wary of using yet another “free” phone number site. I’ve used 2 of them over the last couple years, and they were both excellent – until they suddenly stopped offering their service, including a very popular one run by NetZero, a huge company with lots of money behind them.

The problem is once you start giving out that phone number, when they disappear you are left having to send another new phone number to everyone you gave the old number to. I made the mistake of putting one of those numbers on a business card, and had to reprint new cards when they folded up their tents with 14 days notice.

  6. m Says:

Is Kongregate “outrageously handy”? Honestly, it’s a game site. Game sites may be fun, but handy?

  7. Greg Says:

Chuck, I used PrivatePhone as well. The service worked great and was up for a LONG time. While I wouldn’t use this sort of service as a dedicated number for a business voice mail or anything like that, it does come in handy when you are selling stuff online on sites like Craigslist or internet forums and wish to leave a contact number for people that are interested in the item.

  8. Sib Says:

Last.fm is way better than Deezer.
Can’t find half the songs I want to listen to.
And it also has an application you can use, so you don’t even have to use your browser.

  9. derr Says:

I agree with what, I wouldn’t classify any of these sites as “outrageously handy”, or even close to it.

  10. Ace Says:

the last one is full of ads and to actually get any prizes.. u have to put in your date of birth on like gizillion sites… be warned!!

  11. moxie Says:

sparknotes are the devil. half the time they’re not even right. can’t have someone else interpret lit for you.

  12. lojo Says:

how about the haters make a better list.

  13. CHAN LEE PENG Says:

    Thanks!

    Directed towards Ace:
Advertisements is how the site affords to give out prizes. Also, have you ever considered entering false information?

    Directed towards SkipTheScammerPrizeSite:
PrizeRebel doesn’t scam. The only reason I put it on the list at the last minute was because I received my shipment of “Advance Wars: Days of Ruin” three days ago, and thought it would be nice to share. But seeing as how many people are immediatly judging this one site as a scam, it probably would’ve been better to just leave the site out of the list.

thanks for the free rice site. I’m up to 1020 grains. It’s more fun than those click the button sites.

  18. Oak McIlwain Says:

I don’t find them outrageous and I’m not compelled to try them.

    Thanks anyway =]

  19. WriteStuff Says:

Some of the sites are nice, but I found that PolyCola no longer exists. Seems they didn’t renew their domain or something because it just forwards to an ask.com page. BTW My rice count was over 3800 when I left it – but I am 56 years old too.

  20. callum hudson Says:

hey yea how do i get money on this thing…i mean is it per view or if people like it or per comment or what man…

  21. streamlinefeline Says:

Enlightened: You are very resourceful. You should continue to write these types of articles. You should also include a section with regards to sites that one should stay away from and write why. Continue your do diligence, if you are getting negative comments that’s ok, this only means that they are reading it…So keep on typing and remember – you are what you make of yourself so stay truthful, honest and positive.

For the Negative people out there: Your criticism would be more constructive if you supported why you did not like what you’ve read. You certainly did not take the time to do any research on your part… Just here to criticize. In the world nothing is perfect but there is always a reason why. So provide it or do what your mother told you – BE QUITE!!

I don’t know much about k7, but I’ve been using Google’s grandcentral.com for about 6 months now. It’s sort of an online phone/message service with a lot of nifty features. The best part about it is that, if someone calls it will dial through to the phones of your choosing(home, work, cell) before going to voice-mail. As long as it stays up, I don’t have to worry about losing another prepaid cellphone number ever again.

  30. Mary Says:

Thanks for informing me about Free Rice… that’s a great concept.

  31. Timmy B Says:

Actually a very useful list, I think the negative commments were pointless.

  32. Bruce Says:

Thanks for the sites. I love this kind of thing. I take and use what I can and leave what I cannot. Your effort is appreciated.

  33. Saikat Says:

Quite a nice list. Sparknotes saved me once. :-)

  34. Donnie Says:

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know I found a cool site just like prizerebel.com if you are a gamer. Freegamergoodies.com just like prizerebel but caters to more regions and has higher payout offers.
