Work is often best avoided. However, don’t be aimless while you are slacking. Check out these websites of excellence to discover ways to while away the time at work. Head phones are just a suggestion if you wish to keep your job!

Horse Quartet

A weird and wonderful, almost hypnotic take on the barbershop quartet. Four horses which can be activated individually or all together will deliver you a song that will either drive you wild with irritation or reduce you to tears of laughter. With these permutations and combinations, this site could have you hooked for hours of mindless but deeply satisfying entertainment. Pure lunacy designed to while away the time till you can leave the office and go home to watch it again.

Bubble Wrap Heaven

If you like clicking bubble wrap till there is no more to click, you will love this! Your PC screen can become a giant piece of warp and you can satisfyingly click all the bubbles till there are none left. Fear not though, you can create a new sheet by clicking on “Fresh sheet”. If you are feeling nervous, then there is a manic mode where the bubbles will pop simply by waving your mouse over them. Empty headed and aimless fun – we love it!

Teddy Bear Tower

Watch the teddies fall then watch them jump up again, and again and again. Once you have finished with the teddies you can click on the twirly hair and go to the next time consuming and wasting part of this site. Absolutely no constructive use of your time guaranteed on this wonderful website!

Converter

A guaranteed complete waste of your time in a mindless and enjoyable way, this site allows you to type in any measurement. Then, you will get the equivalent conversion for three real objects. Great to see what your height and weight convert to, if you are really looking to depress yourself before you go home.

Screaming Beans

Watch the tin of beans fill up and then click on it until it explodes. The beans don’t like it of course, and one little guy starts screaming and screaming until you have to put him out of his misery by clicking on him. Then another little bean discovers his mushy mate and starts screaming his little head off too. No problem, squish him too! Be careful, though, they get faster and faster!

Zombo

A very, very strange site but perfect if you are feeling dead after a day at work and want to surf the net with the smallest effort. You can stay on this site for hours and do absolutely nothing.

Soothing Origami

We all gave up on the idea of a paperless office years ago. There is always lots of it lying around, so what better way to while away the endless hours between lunch and home time than to try a little origami? This fabulous site will guide you, whether you are a novice or a burgeoning expert, in to the soothing world that is paper folding. Then, take your finished items home with you – so you can show the family what you did at work today!

Design a Flower

If origami isn’t your bag then hours can be spent creating your own flowers then seeing what they would look like when you “grow” a plant featuring them. You can even send them to your friends and colleagues as a measure of your productivity for the day. You will not notice the minutes, let alone the hours, zooming by with this site. A blooming marvelous time waster, if you forgive the pun.

Destroy the Internet

Type in the URL of a website, and then destroy the site with a variety of tools. You can choose from insects such as wasps or flies, to dinosaurs or chainsaws. You can even enlist the hand of God to help you out here. There are so many choices that it could take hours to look at all of them, and decide which websites to demolish. Childish and puerile, but immense fun, you get the hacker buzz but no one gets hurt!

The Idiot Test

This will take you a long time to complete for two reasons. Firstly, there are lots of “questions” to answer. Secondly, if you get something wrong you have to go all the way back to the beginning. If you have any sort of work-shy tenacity then you won’t be able to resist starting all over again.

It should almost be time for you to go home by now. Before you log out, always click “The End”.

Funny and utterly useless websites to waste some not-so valuable time. RJ Evans, you have written a fun piece of work here and it should reach the frontpage of Triond soon.

Congratulations, for all of your recent Triond success and wishing more in the future.

    God Bless,

    Nelson Doyle

  32. Mandi Says:

It was a lot of fun, but when it asks you to hit the rectangle, any of the red quadrilaterals currently on the page should be acceptable, as they are ALL rectangles. A square is a rectangle with four equal sides. That question needs a bit of work!

  33. Mandi Says:

My apologies, I didn’t specify that my note was intended specifically for the “Idiot Test” website. I guess I just failed my own idiot test! :)
I enjoyed your list, by the way. Thank you!

  34. Paula Says:

Has anybody else had trouble opening any of these pages? I had problems with Horse Quartet and Bubble Wrap. Gives me a blank page. Double clicking the status bar gives:
    Line: 2
    Char: 1
    Error: Invalid Character
    Code: 0
    and
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Error: Object Expected
    Code: 0
I thought it might be something here at work, but another guy was able to open them on his laptop.

  35. Anna Ski Says:

I miss the bubble wrap. Pressing and popping the bubbles takes away the stress. What are we going to be in the future? Let me guess voice recognition commands? Little exercise physically, but a lot more vocally.
Anyway, this is good enough for me right now, thanks for sharing.
