I agree, macbook air is pretty bad, but what do you expect from a laptop that is so thin like that? if you think that you hate it, then be a PC person, or buy a plain old macbook. it probably costs less and you get more space. problem solved.

There's a good reason why I replaced my dell laptop with a macbook a year ago, and I've never been happier. I use office on my mac with VMware fusion for Access and excel. I use iPhoto around once a week to update my photo's and make movies and send them to my folks so they can see me without getting on a plane. My mac does this out of a box. I didnt have to go downloading free this or that, If i wanted it I could, its not about that, for me I use my laptop for around 5 hours or so a day, I didnt want to spend anymore time each day finding things to make it work. I dont get popups, the computer doesnt have something wrong with it every few weeks, I dont have anti virus because I dont it, It just works. that why I like mac. My gf has a macbook air, its a great laptop, Its an amazing device, I wont be changing to the air as I use dual screens and USB for my printer and external keyboard.
Using windows became a drag, something would go wrong with it every few weeks, a year ago I was like everyone else on here complaining how bad macs are without ever really using them, the mac does everything my PC did and better and i've never thought about going back to windows, mac osx for me is a better operating system. im not a power user and I judge a computer once i've used it. My dell laptop for work is no where near as user friendly.
Bottom line is if your thinking about getting a macbook air, I use my gf's every second day or so, it does everything I need it to (we have wireless etc so it makes it easier), the battery life is amazing, but dont base your decision on a blog. GO AND USE ONE. if you dont like it dont buy it, If you feel the difference in portability is better than having a cd slot, good for you... by the way, the track pad technology will bring apple more revenue than the Air itself, soon the technology will be adopted to every laptop, its that good to use... like the first time you play with an ipod touch...
Go try it - make your own decision...

who thinks about whether it would survive a fall?

Well, for those of you who need your laptop so that you can tote it down to the coffee shop with you to show off, this one comes up short on replacing your desktop, but at least it's still good for show! For those others, most of whom have a legitimate need for a compact, lightweight portable computer, then this one is completely suitable. The fact is, Apple is just a better product. Period.

is the thinness really that much of a selling point? I mean it doesn't even make it any more portable than another laptop. i mean, im not going to go around carrying my laptop in an envelope. it makes no difference to me if its half an inch thinner. and to all those people who keep saying that no one uses more than one usb at a time; i have 7 usb ports on my desktop computer and im constantly using at least 4 of them at any given time. and especially with that tiny hdd, i know i would need that one usb port for an external one, which would leave me nothing for anything else i need to plug in.

what do you expect, it's less than an inch thick? and that .04 inches can't be a good argument to make. The point of the air is that it's small. so if you don't want speakers, or want ethernet connection, more than one usb adapter, or a cd slot, you should by another laptop. It's not like this is the only laptop apple offers. Also, the wireless system of air goes farther than this article would lead you to believe. The air can hook up to your current apple desktop if it has wireless, and you can transfer data, listen to music, or read a cd through your desktop. This is a very bias article, that conforms to apple critics ignorance towards apple products. there is nothing that any other computer can do that an apple cant do just as well or better.
