Use Alexa.com Together with The Google Keyword Tool

People often see Alexa as a way to know the ranking of various websites. Let us look at some of Alexa’s many uses.

(1) Ranking of websites by traffic

Alexa.com ranks all the websites on the internet based on the traffic that these sites get. You go to www.alexa.com, click on the link that says “Top Sites” and you see a listing of the various internet sites in order of traffic. It is Alexa that tells us that Google is the #1 site on the internet and then we have Facebook, Youtube and then Yahoo etc. If you had a product to sell you know which sites would have more traffic and therefore more potential customers. If you were not sure which site to write for as a content writer through Alexa you would know which content writing sites have the most traffic. You could make your own list of the top ten content writing sites with the most traffic.

(2) Compare Sites

By clicking on the “Site info” button you could compare two websites or just get more data on a site. Using this you could find out what is the traffic rank of a particular website in a given country. You could find out what are the top searches on a given site as well. This would give you ideas with respect to keywords. Also, you can find out how many sites are linked to the target website as well as a listing of exactly which sites they are.

There are also demographics where you can see what the audience of a particular site is like based on age, gender, education, browsing location etc.

(3) Alexa’s Keyword Tool

In the “Home” section of Alexa, is a great quality Keyword Tool that I believe is second to none. This section of Alexa gives you a list of twenty “Hot Topics” in descending order of popularity. It also has a listing of “Hot Pages” and “Hot Products” and, as I mentioned before, a listing of sites with the most traffic. More than this, the page with all this information is updated every five minutes!

There are many more features that Alexa has but these are the most important for content writers and marketers. If you do not know what to write about Alexa and the Google Keyword Tool will more than help you. If you already have keywords they can be shaped or tweaked based on the wide information available on google.com and alexa.com. So use Alexa to supplement the Google Keyword Tool. The keyword is the key to marketing your product.
