Web Design

Making a website these days is so easy! All you need is some basic computer knowledge and then you are ready to go. The only problem is choosing the right solution between so many!

Nowadays when people want to make a website they just need to find an online service like Wordpress.com or Blogger.com and they are ready to go. Making a website these days is so easy, even a ten year old with basic training can do something pretty good up there.

You have plenty of choice today, you have Blogger, you have Live Journals, you have Windows Live Spaces. you have Wordpress, you have Typepad you have Front Page, you have Flash, you have dreamweaver… you have online editors like Yahoo Page Creator, you have Google Sites.

How to choose the right one for you? I must ask you to trust my choice because when it comes to the internet, a website can be anything you want. If you want to make a beautiful website, Flash would be the right choice, the only choice, but unthinkcable for business. On the other hand Dreamweaver is great for single page or very small page websites, but not suitable for sites with more than five pages. And so on, you must know that the best choice I will write down here, is the best one for the average user, the one that has plenty of internet knowledge and wants to make a website that everyone will notice about it. Search engines will be able to find it, people will find it beatufil and you will have a lot of traffic to it.

Let’s start then.

Blogger is hosted by Google, this thing is always online and running at top speed, unless they are making some general maintenance and they need to shut it down for a while which is something it does not happen that frewuently. This editor is the best for the pure beginner. The options are very limited, you can only have basic design, basic HTML editor and basic Javascript. Forget about databases and anything more complicated. Simplicity is king here. But with this you cannot add files to a server like you need to do with Google Webmaster tools, you cannot edit pages manually without a lot of effort and you cannot get rid of that bar above. Blogger is not suited for business or anything serious. Just for fun.

Front Page is not used anymore. There are many options many times better today. I believe that Microsoft stopped it’s support and now they are still not working on it anymore. Just don’t use it.

Dreamweaver used to be the King of the internet. Now with blogs and other options is obsolete. You can do anything with Dreamweaver but since it’s so complex, you will have to waste your whole life learning how to make a hard core internet page. By the time you learn it, you won’t need it anymore.

I tried Type pad trial, but I did not like it. They have the most beatufil designs but the way it works leaves me somewhat confused. They have options they should not have and they lack options and features they should have. And it’s not free either.

I must now say the winner is Wordpress. It’s my favorite choice because of… everything. It’s free, easy to install on any server, easy to learn how to use just by yourself and can do anything you want. Since it works only with databases, this thing is always updated in your pages. With dreamweaver you would have to change all your pages links manually one by one al of them or set an advanced behavior, Wordpress does it automatically for you, faster than you can click!

The extensions people make for it are the true jewels of the crown. You can do anything you want with those extensions, you can manage Adsense, you can manage tags, you can magane links, you can manage pages, you can manag content, you can cache your pages to make the server super fast, you can do anything you want.

You can even download for free cool templates for it and enable them with just one click.

Wordpress is really the true winner.

Of course you may say there are a lot other options I did not try but hey if I am going to try them all one by one, you would never read this article because options are too many!

Wordpress does fine for everyone
