How to make your own basic HTML website without much technical knowledge or money. All you need is a word processor, like Microsoft Word and your away.
- Sign up with a free website host. A good one is x10 hosting. Get familiar with the web host before moving onto the next step. (Make your sub domain and all of that sort of stuff)
- Write up your website on a blank Word document. Can’t have any pictures, word art or clip art, just plain text!
- Log into your hosting or if your with x10 hosting it’ll be your cPanel account. Navigate around and find the file manager (if you haven’t already found it). Open the file manager. Go into the “web root (public)” part. May be different on hosts other that x10/cPanel.
- Create a new file on the file manager under (public/www.) If it is not named this create it under anything with the word ‘public’ in it. IMPORTANT: You must put .htm and the end of the file name. The rest of the file name can be anything you want!
- Open the file you have created in the HTML editor. On x10 hosting you will just be able to copy and paste your page into the file. On other hosts you will have to use HTML language.
- Save the file and go to your sub domain. There will be an index page with a list of file names. Click on the file that you created (it will have the same name you called it) Once you click on it your site should appear!
Trouble Shooting
If you are having trouble with a host other that x10 try using x10 hosting, as this guide is written for making a site on x10 hosting.
If on x10 hosting you are having trouble getting into the file you created use the following detailed steps:
Check the box next to the file you created. Near the top of the page click on the HTML editor button.
If you need to use HTML on a different host then either use x10 hosting or learn HTML. It is quite basic, just look up basic HTML on Google or Yahoo!.
x10 hosting can be found by looking up x10 hosting on Google.
