How Does Your Website Compare?

Sorting out how your website compares to others, and how you can improve it, is something that anyone with a website worries about.

So you’ve created a wonderful new website, it’s been “put online” (whatever that means!) and now everyone can see it. You want to see how your website compares to others that are on the web! Well there are several ways to do it. One of the more fun ways, and my personal favourite is via a site called Nibbler from the excellent guys at Silktide. It ranks your website out of 10, based on 4 different categories. Those categories are;

  • Accessibility
  • Experience
  • Marketing
  • Technology

Nibbler is depicted by a small robot like image, which I personally think is quite sweet! Each of the categories you get an mark out of 10, and this contributes to an overall score out of 10. Nibbler is of course the free version of a paid piece of software, which whilst I haven’t had access to this, it appears to be quite a good system.
However whilst I love Nibbler, I want to explore all of the alternatives;The following websites are also designed exclusively for the testing of other websites, and I have personally used them on my website, which is currently in the number 1 spot on Nibbler, to see how they compare! http://nibbler.sliktide.com - 9.5/10http://www.websiteoptimisation.com – 4.35 seconds on a T1 connectionhttp://www.websitepulse.com/help/tools.php – 1.465 seconds using the German connection
Whilst there are only a limited amount of free applications out there for testing your website, there are still the usual methods, i.e. validation via the W3 consortium’s website.
My website – http://www.christophereast.com is a dedicated resource for small business and independent professionals to access the best resources possible.
