Flash animation: you either love it or hate it. This is a selection of some of the finest, made for bands, to show off talent or just for the sake of it. Grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy!
Whodunnit?
There is murder afoot at Lenoir Manor House, but whodunnit? Superb flash animation short from Pascal Campion, one of the best flash animators around at the moment. Fabulous European style drawing with a groovy soundtrack. Spookalicious!
Karma Ghost
This will make you think twice before doing something naughty you might regret later. By Billyblob, this animation follows a gentleman with a bad attitude who dents someone’s car in a garage and walks away. Enter the Karma Ghosts who pursue him relentlessly to his bitter end. Great to watch, but with a slightly annoying soundtrack.
Cow Revolution
This has been around for a long time but is worth included here for its straightforward knicker wetting hilarity. By Bjorn-Magne Stuestol, this sing-along short tells the story of the young cow who leads a revolution against those nasty carnivores – us. If this does not reduce you to a cackling huddle, you have no sense of the silly whatsoever!
Bad Budgie
They say some people shouldn’t own pets and it is equally true that some pets should not have owners! All this hapless chap wanted was a budgie to call his own. Unfortunately he bought Joey, foul-mouthed and alcoholic and distinctly unhappy with his new home. By Atom Films, this flash cartoon will have you laughing out loud.
Who’s That Knocking?
This rocks! A Bhagavad-gita type tale set to an old blues number. A combination of beautiful colors, excellent art and the tongue in cheek soundtrack make this a short that you will watch till the end.
The End Of The World
If you don’t take the end of the world too seriously, you will enjoy this! The narrator is obviously a Professor in World History and Politics (not!). A small warning for those of you who do not like swearing – this has a lot!
The People’s Mario
This flash animation is by Celarent and features music by the Red Army Choir. If you have ever wondered what Super Mario crossed with Soviet style art would look like, then take a look at this! Watch the People’ Mario as he squashes a variety of capitalist scum and heads to victory!
Enola Gay
This short but touching flash animation from Yamaha features the last few minutes of the life of a young girl as she walks to school early one morning in the town of Hiroshima. There is a real sense of drama in this animation.
Twelve Monkeys
You will enjoy this but if you have kids of around four years old they will probably enjoy it even more! Very engaging and cute this is another example of the superlative flash work of Marcel Campion. A little girl receives a barrel from the jungle which contains, yes, you’ve guessed it! Extremely sweet song and fantastic animation.
Doorsteps
This is a flash animation video for the Swedish band Lodger. Their lyrics can border on the depressive (one of their songs is called “I Love Death”) so this short is not really suitable for you if you are on a downer at the moment. It is the story of a man thrown out on the streets by his partner and his steady descent downwards from there. Very very cool animation, however!
