Just because you have a pirated copy of PhotoShop, it doesn’t make you a graphic designer.

I’ve got a bone to pick with all those so called Craigslist graphic designers. The ones who think it’s alright to sell website designs for $15. Knock it off! You’re ruining our profession that is in an already fragile economy. You think a pirated copy of Photoshop and a laptop make you a designer? Think again. People go to school and spend themselves into thousands of dollars worth of debt in student loans so they can be professional graphic designers. When it comes time to get some work, they can’t because industry standard pricing is being forced down by frauds! If you don’t have some form of formal training, you really don’t need to be posing as a graphic designer.
For all of you who purchase designs from people on Craigslist, know this. Craigslist is notorious for liars and scam artists. While there are legitimate offers and requests, always check credentials. When looking for some quick designs, ask the person if he or she is certified and if they have a website or portfolio site where you can view their work. If they decline, do not work with them. For those of you who want to work with the guy just because the person sells designs at dirt cheep prices, all I can say is you get what you pay for.
And finally, a note to Microsoft. Do your realize how many toes you’re stepping on when you make commercials about 8-year-olds who can clean up and manipulate photos? Artists, designers, photographers… I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole of the creative industry move to Macs now. Knowing your customer base would come in handy.

someone is pissed because some eight year old on craiglist is undercutting him and making more money despite his thousands spent in art school.

If your work is better…it’ll show. If it’s not, then you need to innovate.
Mac is so overrated…as if they’re somehow making less money off you. Open source is the new and future king!

You must really think that your poor college education is a replacement for thousands of hours at night learning on your own.
You’re crying because it’s true that you don’t have to go to school for this.
If you have to go to school for graphic design, advertising, web design, etc. then it just proves you are not intelligent or creative enough to learn the skills on your own.

Have you seen what kind of crap comes from a designer who sells his work at $15 per design? It’s garbage. I have full faith in my skills as a graphic designer. I don’t have faith in people who will take the cheapest price over quality.
