Internet is a good medium to explore the potential of a global market. It could bring you clients from distant parts of the world. A good web site can bring amazing results for your business. A web site, which is able to prompt a person to buy your product or service, is said to be successful. Design, Hosting, Content etc. are some of the major factors that determines the success of a web site.

Following is a step-by-step approach in creating and maintaining a website of your own.

Choose a Good Web-Hosting Provider

A good hosting provider will host your web site on a fast server with minimum server downtime. Compare different hosting providers with the features they offer before selecting one. Go through the testimonials provided by other customers about their service and reliability. A quick search in Internet can bring you a number of web-hosting providers to choose from.

Search for a Good Domain Name for Your Proposed Site

Once you identified a web-hosting provider, go to their website and search for a good domain name for your proposed site. The domain name selection should be done carefully as it can have lasting effect on your business. It should be closely related to your business. There are various tools to find good domain names, which are not yet taken. You have to pay an annual fee for your domain name. You also should select the web space requirement from the website. Usually a 10 MB web space is sufficient if you are running a basic website. For web space also you need to make an annual payment as determined by the web-hosting provider. Usually this fee varies from provider to provider.

Design Your Homepage

Now it is the time to upload your web page for your web site. Create a homepage with some good content and images of your products and name it as Index. Depending upon the language you use the extension will be different. For e.g., if you are using PHP for development, the homepage name will be Index.php. If you are just creating an html page only name it as Index.html. Upload it through FTP or control panel provided by web hosting provider. Once you upload your first page check it in the browser by typing the complete URL. Design the rest of pages and link it from the homepage properly.

Promote Your Website

The main traffic to your web site is generated from different search engines. For this reason, you have to ensure that you get number of links from other websites which are having high popularity. The number of inbound links are a basic criteria to determine the popularity of a website. You can depend on reciprocal links to get links to your site. In a reciprocal link building approach you place other website links in your page by requesting web masters to post your links in their web sites. You also can buy one-way links from other websites where no reciprocal links are required to be provided by your end.
