13 realistic do’s and don’t into incorporating a well defined website that your guest will enjoy and keep coming back.
Making a effective, compelling website there are a few basic rules to keep people on your website longer and keep them interested in what your website has to offer.
1) Make it attractive and pleasing to the eyes.
2)Make it easy to navigate. The less difficult it is to figure out, the more enjoyable the experience will be for your guest.
3) Have useful information that the guest is looking for. Example- If your site is about dogs then have information about dogs and not children clothing.
4) Don’t clutter your website or blog. Its very unappealing and many guest will leave the clutter in search of something else.
5) Don’t add unnecessary animation, music and backgrounds to your site. Some of your ads may have animations an gadgets which is acceptable. However, for your purposes your site will not need them. A small one in the top corner works for some sites but its really not needed. Your logo should be sufficient.
6) Advertisement ration should be 75% content to 25% ads.
7) Page width should be no more than 900 pixels.
8)Use a footer. Stats show for whatever reason sites with a footer have a greater percentage of success.
9)Have links in the footer
10) Avoid high contrast colors. Colors should blend together and match.
11) Don’t CAPITALIZE everything. Its annoying.
12)Don’t use fancy fonts. This turns off a lot of guest and they will go elsewhere. The basic fonts are Arial, Helvetica, Veranda, Time New Roman, and Georgia. There are a few others, but these are the basics.
13)Keep links underlined and blue. This is universal and guest are accustomed to looking for blue underlined links.

This is the basic setup for a website, it’s the true and tried method. It’s well established and humans are creatures of habit. These are the comforts they are going to look for when visiting your website. First impressions go a very long way on web pages as they do when meeting a new person.
There are always exceptions to the rules but these sites usually have a unique concept. Don’t get caught up in adding everything you can think of or what the program has to offer. All app’s should help organize your site for the guest enjoyment.
