Youtube is a video sharing website which allows its users to share videos of their own liking. These videos can be anything that is appropriate such as movies that they have created and music videos.

Every visitor can watch videos. However, only members who have registered to the site can upload videos, add comments, send messages to others and rate videos. Some videos are inappropriate for viewing and is only limited to an age. For example, there are hundreds of adult videos on the site and for a member to view the adult content, they will need to verify their age. Visitors can not view the video until they have registered and are at or above the age of 18.

Can a User Submit Any Video They Like?

Each video they upload must be their own! Youtube prohibits copyrighted videos that they do not upload without permission. Despite the terms of service by Youtube, it seems that the rules of not changed anything at all. Users are still violating the rules and Youtube have not done a good job by preventing this from happening. If you visit the site at this moment of time, I can guarantee that you will still see hundreds of videos that might have been uploaded without the owners consent. These videos could be movie trailers, full movies in parts due to the fact that a video can only be 10 minutes long.

Copyrighted Video Content

As I have stated above, Youtube has not done a good job of keeping their videos unique.. Despite their message that tells all members about the use of copyrighted material, users have continued to upload clips from movies, television shows and music videos. The videos that are uploaded are not really reviewed by the Youtube staff which means that the owner of the videos will have to track them down.

Offensive Content on YouTube

Some of the video content in Youtube is offensive. Youtube has been criticized for this issue even though it is stated against their terms of service. So you may find videos that you might not like at all.

It is up the users to flag a video that they may think is inappropriate. After taking this action, a Youtube staff will review the video content. If you do find any unsuitable videos on Youtube, do flag them as this is a good way to keep videos unique and friendly.

There are lots of bad points about Youtube but there are some advantages of the site. These advantages include many but I will be only mentioning one good reason.

Youtube is a good site to research videos for your educational needs. It can significantly help you in your subject and I can say that you can find nearly anything that you search for!
