Nielsen only counts the votes (viewer ratings) from what information they receive weekly from their data boxes, so how are the rest of us supposed to be heard?
If you are like millions of television viewers, you are probably trying to save a show of yours from being cancelled. How are you doing this, you’re signing a petition, your trying to get friends and family to watch the show in order to raise ratings and save your show. What is wrong with this? Nothing, except the fact that unless you have a Nielsen’s rating box in your home, you don’t count as a viewer.
With only about 12,000 – 37,000 Nielsen’s rating boxes in American, that means no matter how many of your friends and family you can get to watch, it probably will make no difference unless more than one of them has a Nielsen’s rating box, which sends data to Nielsen’s headquarters. With 112 million television viewing households in America, it seems unbalanced to only allow 12,000 to 37,000 of them to vote, doesn’t it?
So, you want to be heard? There is a way to be heard even if you do not have a Nielsen’s rating box and here is how. Watch TV online. The networks can analyze the number of streams, number of page views, number of visits, number of visitors and number of comments. This even out the odds and lets all of us have a voice in what show gets saved. So want to save a show, send all your friends and family links to watch a show online at a site such as Hulu or SurftheChannel. It is recommended that you don’t use iTunes because of the $1.99 fee, networks don’t check this website because it is so infrequently visited, also any website where you download it to watch does not count either. It has to be on a website that can generate ad revenue, advertising matters online just as it does on television.
Watching television online also gives you other benefits, you can watch a show when you want, you have a pause button for bathroom breaks and unexpected company, you have limited and sometimes no commercials.
Nielsen is in control of whether your show is saved or not, but they only see at the most 37,000 of us as important. Watching television online gives the rest of us 112 million a vote. So, save your show, watch it online, now.
