Video is used for almost everything on the web these days. From marketing online to simply posting your funny videos on YouTube video can in a very real way be considered the “public access channel” of the new millenium. A “global access channel” if you will.

So you’d like to try a little video editing for yourself. What do you do? What do you need? How much will it cost? Luckily, it’s not all that big a deal. You can edit video for your website or for upload to a video sharing site and spend very little money. Here is what you need:

Obviously the first thing you need to begin video editing is… well, video! You can use video that you took with your camcorder on your vacation to Disneyland last summer or you can directly take video and edit it immediately. Either way you’re going to need something to edit it on and something to edit it with. These are a computer and some video editing software.

A Computer

The computer you use should be a relatively recent model and should have enough RAM and disk space to edit a fairly large sized video. Any computer made after, say, the year 2000, should do the trick.

Video Editing Software

You’d think that you need some fancy-shmancy video editing software so that you make a semi-professional looking video. Truth to tell, you’d be wrong. You can make a very good video with free video editing software. Often, this software is already installed on your computer. For PC you’d have Windows Movie Maker and for Macs you’d have iMovie. Both video editing softwares are very good with tutorials that can be found with just a little research.

If you don’t want to use the software already installed, you can find very good versions of video editing software such as T@b or Wax or others. Either way, video editing can be done both easily and inexpensively.
