Any Drawbacks?

Unfortunately, yes! This site enables you to only download YouTube site for starters. There are many other video sharing sites too but CatchYouTube only accepts YouTube links. I’m pretty sure there are free online sites that can convert any video but you have to really look for these and sometimes, you may have to download software to convert them which is a bit annoying. Another problem is, even though you can convert the videos, I don’t think this way is particularly legal because if it is a song that you are downloading, you aren’t particularly paying for it and YouTube have their own copyright terms. But comparing it to other software like Limewire and the many other free online music downloading sites, this way at least guarantees that you can look up the copyright terms if you want. I don’t think this should bother you loads because at the end of the day, you can always delete any downloads if you want to. Also, a final drawback is that some videos don’t download if you frequently keep downloading videos using this site and the downloading may take time.

Long Term?

It’s only now that many similar sites to CatchYouTube have started propping up as free conversion sites, not only for YouTube but any video sharing site. I’m not surprised to be honest because in credit crunch days, buying every video and song that you fancy might not be everyone’s cup of tea and with YouTube refusing to put any songs because of copyright issues, people have got to have some type of leisure and many young people and teenager resort to sites like these. There are many competitors for CatchYouTube but in the near future, downloading sites could be over and done with and people would choose to download their music this way because if they’ve downloaded it so it is theirs technically. But on the other hand, these sites could lead to major copyright issues leading to imprisonment etc.

My Verdict?

For me, I leave you with the thought that this site is actually pretty impressive that it offers you a service such as this. Fair enough, there are plenty of drawbacks to worry about but if you ever needed a quick service, CatchYouTube can cater for you. I think that these sites won’t survive long because of legal issues and competitors because it does seem unfair that you download other people’s work without paying for it, but hats off to the person who thought of this idea in the first place. It just makes the internet experience just that bit better.
