You are What You Tweet

When I was growing up, my Mother always told me “you are what you tweet”. Well, not exactly. No one even had a computer in their home back then, much less internet and especially not something called Twitter!

For the record – I love “twitter” in fact, I’m pretty sure I’m addicted to it!

If you are new to twitter, there are a couple of things you should know. First of all, did you know that your “tweets” show up on google? I found this out after I “tweeted” about having a Margarita the size of my head! I nearly died when I saw that same “tweet” showing up on google! Not that having a Margarita (the size of my head) is a bad thing, just really didn’t want the world to read about it. After that I decided to make sure my “tweets” are fit to be googled!

Secondly, when you invite someone to “follow you” a portion of your bio shows up when they click on your name. What does your Bio say about you? Even just a few words can speak volumes, especially if you’re a writer looking for an Agent! Really, it applies to any industry. In other words, your Bio is like an elevator pitch. In a matter of seconds, your bio/elevator pitch causes someone to decide whether or not they want to follow you.

I know that when I receive an invitation to “follow” someone, if I don’t see something that has to do with writing or public speaking, I have to take the time to see if this is someone I really want to follow.  Generally people won’t take the time to do this and they will ignore the invite and move on.

If your bio sounds more like you are looking for a date, then you might want to consider revising. Unless, of course you are looking for a date.

Twitter is a wonderful thing just remember “you are what you tweet”!

There’s a lot more that could be discussed on this topic – but I will save that for another post. Next time we’ll discuss your “avatar”. Really? Stacks of cash?

I hope you enjoyed this post. Feel free to share it.
