Twitter: An Effective Communication and Marketing Tool

Twitter is a powerful communication and marketing tool where less can also means more.

If you have not heard of Twitter, you must be living in a different “nest”. The new hyped sensation is fast taking the world by storm. It is now the new communication era. We used to write snail-mails and wait impatiently for reply letters each day. Then there was the email, where letters can be reached to anyone at anywhere on the globe in a matter of seconds. We used to have a hard time figuring out the maps. Then comes GPS. Women who do not know how to read maps? Not to worry. Technology’s your savior. And while we still blog, there comes a whole new sensation – microblogging.

I read in an article that someone described Twitter as “one step closer to telepathy”. I couldn’t agree more. In 140 characters or less, you get to read another person’s mind. And the world has just got a whole lot smaller. While the internet can be a cold virtual world, a twitter here and there may soon form a chorus. You get to know what the girl next door is doing at the moment without literally needing to peep at all. So, is Twitter now the new “binoculars”? You get to know more from a distance. In this case, the internet outlaws any proximity.

If you are still a greenhorn to the messaging community, you need to start picking yourself up. Staying ahead of technology will bring you more advantages that you can probably think of. For example, do you know that Twitter is also a good marketing tool? Look at how musicians and actors use them. Gigs, events and news are updated by a few tweets. And you get a pool of fans swarming to grab the concerts’ tickets.

Still not convinced? Ask Lily Allen, the British pop star who hid concert tickets in cities she was in and dropped hints on her Twitter. A survey showed that 33 per cent of Twitter users were more inclined to buy online music compared to 23 per cent of the average internet users.

Have you seen how online businesses have blogs to them as well? Blogs serve as quick updates platforms for new stocks and latest consumer trends to be announced. And then there is a quicker way: You tweet.

The thing is, Twitter is fast becoming a communication cult. Those who have tried it have probably witnessed its powers in some ways. There is a Chinese saying that goes, “A bird may be small, but it has all organs right in place”. Indeed, Twitter – the new wave of microblogging might just be the next big tool you need to get your words and business right.

An interesting article.I haven’t used Twitter yet because I am not sure I want to tell people what I am doing, but maybe I will eventually succumb. Good work.
