Tweetdeck

A review of a great new app that is free and easy to use for people who like Twitter.

I’ve only been tweeting about a month now and it wasn’t until I heard about TweetDeck that Twitter started looking useful to me.

TweetDeck is a browser bar on your desktop, you can hide it, or it can sit in the background.

What does it do?  Well I have mine configured to show several columns.  The first column it shows me are tweets by people I’m following.  Useful.

The next column is cool, it lists any tweets at all that mention you.  Find out if people are tweeting about you.

The next column lists the direct messages I receive.

The next column are TweetDeck recommendations.  This is where it really gets useful.  It is a constantly changing list of recommendations of Tweeters to follow.  What a way to build a source of information that is pertinent to you.  I’ve started following several writers, John Cleese, and Kevin Pollack.  If you were so inclined I saw that you could also follow Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alyssa Milano.  Did you know she likes baseball?

You can follow anyone in any field that interests you.  Sure you could do a lot of searching on Twitter to find them, but TweetDeck does it for you.

My last column displays what’s buzzing right now on Twitter.  As I write this “adamisback”, “bing”, and “kradam”, among other things, are buzzing.  Whatever “kradam” is?  People are tweeting about it.  Very useful if you want to know what is hot content right now.

And of course, if you want to tweet, you don’t have to go to Twitter to do so.  Just tweet from TweetDeck.

So I highly recommend that if you want to get more out of Twitter, install TweetDeck.

The only annoying thing is the little bird tweet every time you get a tweet from someone you are following.  I have to figure out how to shut that off.
