An observation on the greater significance of a Governor with a Twitter account.
June 20, 2009 was a somewhat notable day for some hardcore Schwarzenegger fan somewhere. The Governor of California was approximately ten minutes away from his destination, when the plane he was on had to make a quick landing due to smoke coming out of an instrument panel in the the plane’s cockpit. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wrote about the incident on his twitter account saying; http://twitpic.com/7uzh9 – A little adventure just now when my plane made an emergency landing. All’s ok, though.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s tweet this Friday says more than he is ok. A tweet from someone of this caliber celebrity and political influence speaks volumes about the evolution of communication. With just 140 characters, and a link to one photo Gov. Schwarzenegger has inspired thousands upon thousands of words to be written by various people around the world. All writing about a few brief moments in the Govenator’s Friday.
Social Networking sites are no longer a frowned upon pastime for nerds. Twitter and Facebook! are now common place terms on a every news network in America. People in countries on opposite sides of the globe now inform people from the stay at home parent to heads of state. Twitter has become such an relative source on international affairs, newsworthy events, politics, and a valid resource in researching a story that America’s Department of State recently asked Twitter to hold off on software changes in order to monitor protests in Iran after the latest election there.
