An outsiders opinion on the increasingly popular concept that has destroyed our nation.
Whether it Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, or bebo, social networking has become a popular way to communicate, and interact interact with our friends, relatives, and other aquaintintances. (I do have a facebook account but it is used for one sole purpose…to watch live celebrity webcasts. Otherwise i would not get anywhere near a social networking site.) The thing that most social network users are blind to is the fact that we eventually get sucked into its appeal and spend more virtual time with our friends then we spend quality time with our families which we will regret as we lie on our deathbed at the age of ninety with no one there because we never really bonded through quality time with our family . Not only that but it is very likely you could meet someone virtually and they might seem nice, but they could have some evil intentions.
I am not saying that virtual communication is bad, sometimes it is the only way to communicate with the people we care about, but the important thing is that you do not let it control your life. For example, I have of many cases where a teen puts WAY to much personal info on their profile, and this can often lead to meeting an unknown accquaintance somewhere which could end in kiddnapping, death, etc. Although if you are careful with what you put on your profile (better not to have one, better safe then sorry!) and warn your friends and families of the consequences resulting from that thoughtlessness, then many of these occurances can be prevented. As a final note, i personally think there are many other productive things we could be doing with our time such as reading, writing, helping around the house and playing outside instead of worrying about whether your profile looks cool, or if soccergirl123 accepted your friend invite. If you are really desperate and can find nothing to do, you could always write a blog, on a SAFE website, or write a couple articles on this site in order to express your ideas, thoughts, and opinions in a safe and healthy way. Thanks for reading.
