India was always a social networked economy.
India is one of the most networked economies. We celebrate every moment of life be it child birth, marriage, education or any other event. We like to spend hours at tea stall (lately at CCD, Barista etc.) discussing who is the best actor, which cinema is good to watch, whats happening in the idiot box, which is the most favourite soap opera, how Tendulkar should bat, how PM can run this country better etc. For sure we like talking and networking. Dont we!
Somethings never change and our habit of talking and networking will not change. With changing time something which has changed is our communication habit and places at which we communicate – facebook, orkut, twiter, linkedin has replaced the tea stall.
We are living in the interesting time which has see change in the way we communicate. The social networks have changed users’ perception and habits towards online communication. The Indian network community have come out as a surprise package, generating one of the greatest demands for social networking industry. The Asia-Pacific region is mostly dominated by Friendster, but when it comes to the Indian sub-continent Orkut, facebook, hi5, LinkedIn, MySpace, and twitter catches maximum attention. India has emerged as a great potential market for social networking. The home grown social networking sites ibibo, fropper, bigadda are also gaining ground.
Social media marketing is gaining importance and in my views will change the shape of communication in India. The social media in my views can change shape of the business. It is already impacting communication in many ways:• Emergence of citizen journalism • Corporate India realized the power of social media marketing in India• Social media marketing moving to mobile• Shift in the power of communication in the hands of citizen• India may emerge as the centre of crowdsourcing.
In my view blogging, citizen journalism, mobile networking, crowdsourcing is set to change the future of the Indian communication. The corporate India, political India, social India is already embracing the social media. In coming days we shall see more engaging and immersive social media. I will try and cover a few Indian case studies in days to come.
