Put Your Phone Down!

How much do you use your mobile?

In the modern world, we are becoming more and more used to relying on technology, and this is something that has to change. Many people will now go out with their friends and be using their mobile talking to other people while they’re out, which is just rude. Not only when they are out with people, but they will sometimes even do it while they are having a meal with their friends or family which I don’t think there is any excuse for really.

Of course you still need to use your phone, but there is no need to be glued to it for the whole time. Something that you should always ask yourself when you’re out and would like to send a message is whether you need to send that message right now, or whether there is any chance that you could just save it until later when you get home from wherever you are at the moment.

Another bad thing about mobile phones is not just the social aspect of them, but the fact that you can get so many different applications on them. This means that we often don’t have enough time to do anything else in our lives other than play on games and try to beat other people’s high scores. Although many of us don’t realise this, we now do a lot less in our spare time than we have ever done before in the past. I know that personally, I always used to have a book to read for an hour or so before I go to bed, whereas now the most likely thing that I am going to be doing is playing on my phone to see if anyone has said anything new on a social networking website.

The simple way to get over this is to make a rule. Make sure your friends know this as well, so they will understand why they cannot get in contact with you at certain times in the day. You should say that once you start to eat dinner, you’re not allowed to touch your phone for the rest of the day because of the fact that your brain needs that amount of time to be able to switch off from the amount of technology that it has to deal with for the rest of the day. This includes phone calls and text messages as well as just the applications, and you will find that this works best if you just switch off your phone altogether and put it somewhere that you’re not going to go until the next morning. This means that you’re not going to give in to the temptation of turning it on again and seeing if anyone has tried to get in contact with you. If you manage to do this, then you will most likely find that you can do things in your life that you haven’t been able to do for years, such as read a newspaper or something like that. You will have a great time once you realise that there is a lot more to life than just technology!

Totally agree with you. Now, a phone isn’t just a phone! Think it’s terrible when you see people talking on the phone while driving.
    Good article, Thanks for sharing.

Even kids are going crazy over these new phones. They are not just phones anymore, they are toys! And then parents complain about the lack of “connection” with their kids.

Honesstly, I am glued to my iPhone, simply because I do a lot of business transaction while I am traveling. I can’t just open my laptop while on the road. I need to online with my skype account to cater all the questions of my client. Meaning I still need to glued to my phone. However, I have this limitations. I usually don’t use phone while eating. I don’t entertain text messages, if it’s really an emergency then they will definitely call my number. The only thing that keeping me glued to my phone is business and nothing more.
