People aged between 45 and 65 are taking over facebook because they like to know what is going on in their teenagers lives.
According to a news article that I read this morning, facebook is being taken over by teenage parents in a bid to keep an eye over what their children do and speak about. Below are some interesting facts I found in the news article that I thought you might like to know.
- 47 percent of mums aged 45 to 65 use social networking websites to view their children’s pages.
- South Australian mums are the most likely mothers in Australia to use facebook daily with 65% of them logging on everyday
- 81 percent of Aussie mums have fears as well as insecurities about on line social networking
Out of those parents that use facebook:
- 61 percent of parents use facebook regularly
- 47 percent daily
- 14 percent at least once a wee with12 percent of parents having little or no interest in social networking.
- Households that earn less than $70,000 a year, are more likely to use social networking websites on a daily basis, with Australian mums on average spending more than an hour each day on social networking websites
- 47 percent of mums across Australia use facebook everyday.
I would like to acknowledge these facts and figures came from the Adelaide Advertiser.
More Did You Know Facebook Facts.
Did you know:
- Facebook started with four US college students in 2004
- In 2005 Facebook opened up to High School Students and a year later anyone that had access to the Internet could sign up and log on to facebook
Today those over the age of 16 are the teenagers most likely to decline friend requests from their parents because they don’t want their parents to know about, girlfriends, boyfriends, drinking, smoking and parties.
Recently there has been uproar on facebook from teenagers creating facebook groups despising of their parents being able to use facebook.
Personally I think it is somewhat of a good idea for parents to use facebook so that they can investigate what their children are doing, to keep them out of trouble and to be kept safe and keeping them from talking to people they don’t know.
What do you think?
I want to get your thoughts on this issue.
Do you think parents should be allowed to use facebook to keep an eye out for their children’s well-being?
