Nine Interesting Things I Found With Stumbleupon

Social Networks

Sites like these make the web such a great place. Some of them can have a huge effect on your life.

Most people go out clubbing or partying or hanging out with their friends on weekends. What do I do? I sit at home and Stumble. For hours. It’s become my life. Some people are addicted to drugs or cigarettes. I’m addicted to Stumbling. Naturally, I’ve found some pretty good stuff.

Obviously, this is all subjective. This list is not meant to be the end-all be-all of internet sites. It is just a collection of my favorite things on the internet, and a little bit of a sales pitch for StumbleUpon. OK, so it’s largely a sales pitch. Whatever. Without any further ado, I present to you this list, so that you can have the rewards of my search without the hours… maybe days… of wasted time. Use it wisely.

  1. OK Go Treadmill Video

A solid start to this list. You may have heard of it already, but it’s worth watching again. The novelty and creativity of this video never wears off. At least not for me. But I’m a geek, so what do I know?

  2. The Most Amazing Drum Solo Ever To Exist

This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen a human being do. He solos for almost four minutes, nearly non-stop. If I ever saw musical talent, it would be this guy.

  3. The Color Test

You know those stupid personality tests? I’m sure you’ve taken at least one. Yea, this is nothing like them. At the end, it tells you what your choices say about your personality, but they’re accurate. And they use proper grammar, something many quizzes made by 15-year-old girls do not.

  4. Intelligence Test

Just an interesting list of trick questions. I got 10 out of 13 on my first try, which I don’t think is too bad. Give it your best shot and then show it to your friends.

  5. Daily Buzz

A cool site that has a bunch of polls. They never seem to end. You might be able to submit your own polls, but I’m not sure. That may or may not require signing up. I didn’t sign up. Definitely worth looking at if you like statistics.

  6. Musicovery

Musicovery finds you music that should suit your mood. First, you select the genre(s) that you would like to listen to. Then, using this cool little gizmo they made up, you input your mood. The mood has two sets of variables: dark vs. positive and energetic vs. calm. Once you put in your mood, you can select the time period you would like the music to be from, and you go. Also, it has a really, really cool display for the music that it will play or has played. This is a really awesome site if you like to discover new music. Which you do.

  7. Uncyclopedia

  8. A personal favorite of mine. Take everything you know about Wikipedia, and just take the opposite, and you’ve got Uncyclopedia. Unlike most attempts at humor over the internet, Uncyclopedia manages to make the jokes very easy to get. You know how they say that sarcasm is hard to understand when it’s written? Not for Uncyclopedia. Some of the articles have had me literally on the floor, howling with laughter.

  9. Digital Blasphemy

Conjure up the coolest image you can in your head right now. It can include anything. Take that, and put it into a website along with many other pictures like it, and you’ve got digital blasphemy. All of these pictures, no matter how other-wordly they appear, look nearly real. It’s really impressive what the creator managed to do with a computer program.

  10. Pandora

Pandora is probably my favorite website. When you first sign up, it prompts you to input a song or artist that you like. It will then play that music, and later, music with similar qualities to it. You can have more than one station, which makes it like a personalized radio. My stations range from reggae to trance to Jimi Hendrix to Dave Matthews Band. It is based on the Music Genome Project, which, in my understanding, breaks down songs and artists to the technical musical qualities that makes it what it is. Some qualities include: major key tonality, vocal samples, a synth bass riff, and a repetitive chorus. I don’t really know what that means, but it’s an example of how technical and serious this is. If you like to find new music, you will love Pandora.

Tried the personality test and the intelligence test, how can people take there results seriously? There not going to gauge your intellegence accurately or determine your personality from arranging eight colurs into pairs. Feel pretty depressed about even commenting; the tests above are useful if you want to waste your time. Thought I’d take the time to say that; Ifeel sorry for the people who believe these tests provide them with meaningfull information. Stumblings sad as well.
