Are you affected by the social networking mania? Do you like to spend your precious time by logging in to Facebook or Myspace? Think again. While you’re wasting your time by playing silly quizzes and talking to some strangers, on the other side these sites are making a huge amount of money by it. So what are you getting?
You upload videos, photographs, music and share it with your friends. This perhaps gives you a momentary relaxation. But nothing more than that. No one is really interested what you are doing right now or even what you are thinking! Simply because you are not that famous even if you accept this fact or not. So why wasting time when people are least bothered about it?
But there are few positive sides of using these social networking portals. I believe if you are creative person or an entrepreneur, you can gain from these sites. Many global businesses have found success in using these social media sites for various business processes. Any creative persons like writers, poets, photographers can advertise their works and draw more attentions and traffics to his/her site.
Here are few reason how you can use your social networking sites in favour of you:
- Some networking sites provide filter application on the personal data provided by the users. Using this feature, you can find your long-lost peers.
- You can find a business partner using these sites since there are more than 200 million actives users. You can connect with friends and through a large network, you can contact people who are also in the same business as you are.
- These sites can be very useful for advertising your products or services if you are offering one. Among the million users, many people log into these sites looking for products and services. You can use this opportunity to find potential clients and consumers.
- These sites are also used to post and find jobs. Many companies have created their profile here and they post job openings so that interested candidates can apply.
- If you are a creative person like poet, photographer, prolific writer you can publish your work free of cost and publicise your creativity to a large pool of interested people. This will increase your visibility and help your work to get recognition.
You log in to these networking sites more than once or twice a day but you hardly gain anything other than contacting your friends. But you can also make these sites work for you and with some monetary gain.

This is no doubt good advice. It would take some work but you get out of something what you put in.

I must not be doing it right! I’m an author and I see very little in terms of hits from facebook, Shetoldme.com, google, etc. even though I have posted stories and links on all, as well as yahoo, stumbleupon, twitter etc. Almost all of my reads still come from other Triond members.

Great information. I can’t stand Facebook and Myspace. I actually wrote an article on that. You can view them. What’s the big deal about Facebook? Just to reconnect with people that you don’t want to or care for in the past and post stupid things on each other’s wall. These writing sites are great and you are spending your time doing something constructive and valuable. As for facebook and myspace, let’s not forget all the drama that it causes.

Thanks for the tips on using social networking sites to our advantage. It’s quite an art and it’s very time-consuming to learn to use these sites properly for promotion.
