Use Twitter actively and you will get amazing results, especially if you are marketing.
Many writers use Twitter as a way of networking and getting more reads but they are not taking full advantage of the system.
Why not?
They are simply adding their articles, pages, etc to Twitter and leaving them. In fact many have their articles set to automatically feed into Twitter and they think that is all they need to do. They do not participate in the system at all, so the only people who see their Tweets are their friends.
If you use Twitter actively you can retweet (RT) articles and pages posted by other people, and they will do the same things for you. Then they are shown to their friends too. Their friends will do the same, if the Tweet is a good one and you will get a lot of read from people you don’t even know about.
For some people it is a matter of time and they don’t have a lot available for going onto Twitter to see what has been tweeted@them. However there is a solution here.
Tweetdeck is an application that sits on your desktop, open or closed, as you prefer, saves lists of new followers, things that have been tweeted by your friends and followers, or forwarded from elsewhere. It is really easy to see who has retweeted your stuff and who has posted new work and to return the favour.
If you participate and help others, they will do the same for you. I downloaded Tweetdeck a couple of weeks ago from www.tweetdeck.com and I have already found quite a big difference in hits on my articles and my blogs. This really does work and it is much simpler to use that Facebook with all its extras all over the place, or Digg and SU with all their rules that are not made clear, or enforced consistently.
I’m not saying that anyone should only rely on Twitter for reads but I have found it extremely useful and would recommend using it in conjunction with Twitterfeed to get maximum return for the time spent. It has certainly given me more traffic on blogs, websites and articles.
