How to Best Use Twitter

Social Networks

How to gather quality followers.

Twitter is one of the better places to promote your work, due in good part to the sheer volume of traffic.  It is, in short, a popular site that is only growing in popularity.  Some of this is due in part to the fact that many celebrities and major media outlets utilize it with some frequency, and because it is a user friendly site that is easy to use and relatively easy to do so effectively.  Here are some methods I have picked up on in the brief time I have been using it.

  • As with other forums, the easiest way to attract quality followers is to follow others.  Reciprocation is the name of the game.
  • Promote your Twitter account on the other sites you use.
  • Spend some time chatting. If all you do is spam, people will eventually catch on and delete you as a friend.
  • Try to bring friends with you from elsewhere. Cross promote with them… for example, put someone else’s Twitter link on your page and have them do the same.
  • Tweet often, but don’t tweet garbage. Tweet things that you think will prove useful, not simply because you think it will get you a return follower.
  • Finally, ‘integrity’ aside, a bit of cheating helps.  There are countless sites whose soul purpose is to add followers. And people do tend to follow those with alot of followers.  When I first started, I would get only an occasional added follower.  Now that I have hundreds, I pick up 5-10 a day (aside from the ones I seek out)   Research them, find the ones that actually work.  To get you started, here is one that has worked particularly well for me.
