Facebook Users Do Not Get Good Grades in School

American students who visit and use Facebook regularly are not so good at studying than students who do not make use of Facebook. That’s what a research led by Ohio State University shows.

219 students were getting interrogated about their studying habits and their use of Facebook. This survey showed that sixty-five percent of Facebook-users visit Facebook on a daily basis, to check whether there are new messages.

Some users only spend a few minutes per session, while others spend more than one hour on one single Facebook session. The research also showed that that sixty-eight percent of students who use Facebook, perform worse significantly than students who do not use Facebook.

Some interrogated students do only spend one hour a week on their studies. Some students also say that their Facebook habits do not influence their grades. Others do admit that they are addicted to Facebook.

“I had to write an essay containing 2000 words at least, but i couldn’t resist to check Facebook. And once you’re on Facebook, you’re busy for a few hours, and in the meantime nothing has been written yet for the essay.” says Daisy Jones, a 21 year old student.

According to the researchers, every generation has to cope with things that distract them from studying. But Facebook is a unique phenomenon, the researchers say. The researchers think that using Facebook too much, can mean a huge difference between grade A or B.

The research was based on Facebook users, but the researchers expect that this is also the case for other social network sites such as MySpace and so on.

This is an interesting article – in my current class, at least 80% of them are addicted to either Facebook or Myspace – that or both.

Is interrogated the right term, by the way? Sounds a little harsh – I think interviewed might have been what you were looking for.

Anyway, interesting article! Although I use Facebook once a week/month most likely (most for promoting work), my grades are still high, so no worries there. :D

Wow very interesting ! I can see how this could become a problem with many students because facebook seems to be very addictive with many adults let alone students still in school.

Very true! Even adults are getting addicted to it.
Facebook has recently achieved 200.000.000 users.

Interesting article, although the OSU forgot to include me in their study, so I think it might be wrong ;) I live on facebook, and I make top grades. Then again, I might be an outlier.
