Facebook Quizzes: How to Get Rid of Them Now

There are several ways to get remove these quiz results from your news feeds. Follow the instructions to make your Facebook clutter-free.

Do ever feel an overwhelming sense of disgust everytime you open your Facebook and all you see are these quiz results on your news feed? Are you already considering unfriending people just to stop getting updates on the 20+ quizzes that they took today?

You might have, at one point, thought Don’t these people have anything better to do with their time than flood my news feed with results to quizzes like “Which Type of Piercing Are You?” and “Which Twilight character are you most like?”

It’s sickening, really. Facebook is normally used as a tool to get in touch with people in your network and for sharing information. What other value are we getting from Facebook if all we’re fed is this nonsense?

Fortunately, there are solutions for this kind of situation that aren’t too drastic as unfriending the people in your list. I’m just one of those people who have decided to put my foot down and do something sensible about this myself, no matter what it took.

I made a practical and very doable goal of cleaning up my Facebook news feed and making it quiz results-free. Hopefully it’ll help you out too, and we can go back to having a clutter-free Facebook where we’re being fed information that actually has value.

Here’s how I did it:

Hide. If you hover over the upper right portion of each news item in your feed, you’ll see a button labeled “Hide” appear. If you click it, a dropdown list appears, with two options:

1. Hide Friend – Now that’s your prerogative, if you find that every single thing this person publishes on the news feed (quiz or non-quiz) is garbage, then by all means, HIDE THAT PERSON! Hide Friend is also a better and non-offensive alternative to un-friending somebody.

2. Hide Quiz – The nice thing about it is that if you hide one “When will you have children?” quiz, you hide all of its future updates. The downside is, you’ll have to hide every different quiz that you come across, until you see none. It’s sort of like weeding out a garden. Or shooting ducks in a video game.

GreaseMonkey for Firefox

GreaseMonkey is a script that you install on your Firefox browser. It allows you to filter out the stories that you see in your news feed (yes, including these annoying quiz results!).

You can download GreaseMonkey here:

So, which method has worked most effectively for you? Share your story on how you cleaned out your Facebook news feed!

I tried the greasemonkey script. It blocked some (not all) of the quizzes in my newsfeed, and also blocked some other random posts. So it’s not working for me. I’m deleting it. Thanks anyway.
