Facebook Applications I Wish Were Never Invented

Social Networks

There’s a lot to like about Facebook, but this post doesn’t have much of that.

I was glowing on about what a great site Facebook is in my last article here. When in the comments Lostash reminded me of all the applications that I keep getting bombarded with that I don’t enjoy at all. In fact there are some that are down right irritating. So here’s a list of facebook applications I wish had never been invented.

#1 The Poke

So and so poked you. Send a poke back! This is so maddening! I mean what purpose does it solve? Childish non verbal communication does not appeal to me at all. I am forever ignoring pokes! It wastes so much time.

#2 How Well Do You Know Me

It may be general curiosity to see how well your friends know you, but don’t send me a quiz with 20 questions about all the details in your life! It is boring and I don’t want to know you that well at all.

#3 Compare people

How do you compare them virtually? Why would you want to compare them at all? What difference does it make if one has red hair and the other has black? Very irritating.

#4 Quiz Creator

Okay so I enjoyed a quiz and played it. Why does that mean that you invite me to make a quiz? I don’t want to make quizes for you thank you. I’ll think twice before playing one from you next time.

#5 Mega Wall

Hey I already have one wall to write on. Why would I want to repeat all that I said on another wall that you constructed? Its bad enough keeping track of one wall.

#6 Super Wall

Come on now, just how many applications do they have for the same purpose. All with added features that suppose to make it better than fb’s own wall.

#7 Good karma

Okay I believe in the karmic laws but on facebook? Come on sending each other virtual karma? Again serves no purpose. At least I don’t think it does, but obviously many people do use it. And I’m superstitious enough to want to do it anyway. Total time waster.

#8 Top Friends

This is a very difficult application. So many people I know believe that they would be inmy top friends and I do have more than 50 that I need to put in there. So I keep avoiding the application each time I get an invite.

There is so much to like about facebook, but everything has a negative. And if I missed out any that you find particularly irritating feel free to mention it in your comment.

Cashmere you just gave me 8 reasons why I don’t use Facebook very much. Most of it is so silly , its just gone to far. Excellent article really enjoyed it.

agree with you particularly the poke one, so pintless.

  5. Sheila Says:

Just mindless nonsense to keep us from getting bored ~ well those of us who have nothing better to do anyway!

  6. jedopi Says:

I do not have a facebook account so I don’t really understand what you mean, but some of the applications you are describing sound ridiculous. I can see why you don’t like them.

  7. Uma Shankari Says:

I guess many of the social networks are fodder for teenage minds when even the silliest stuff in the world looks appealing, especially if it comes from the opposite sex. That’s the time when peer approval plays a mega role.

  8. payge Says:

Friends send invites to jion it and I keep ignoring them. Now I have 8 more reasons to do so.A interesting piece to read.

  9. 101 Says:

Cashmere, great write and very truthful points! why can’t we communicate without all the nonsense? always,Gary La Buda

  10. Lostash Says:

Yes, so true and there are lots more that annoy the hell out of me!! For example, the likes of ‘What type of fish are you?’, or ‘What car would you be?’……GRRRRRR!!!

  11. julianhw Says:

I’ve used it but personally I don’t like airing my personal life in public and amazed what some people do. All these little apps are as bad as spam – so good points made.

  12. skylite Says:

I agree, there are simply just to many applications on facebook and friends are sending out different applications for all of them. They slow down the computer and are annoying for the most part.

  13. Liane Schmidt Says:

    hahaa – fun entertaining article!

    Blessings.

    Sincerely,

    -Liane Schmidt.

  14. Cashmere Lashkari Says:

For those of you not on facebook, if you ever do join, these are applications that you need to stay far away from.
For those of you on facebook, you got just how irritating these applications can be.
Yes Lostash, this was the pointless quiz list that I missed out. We can add that on Number 9!

  15. Karen Gross Says:

My two teen daughters spend countless hours on Facebook. In fact, I am only allowed to use the computer while they are in school (so I am told, my response is often a reminder of who pays their allowance!). I can’t imagine that any adult would have that much time to waste. I really get annoyed when the kids say that they “have to” do all of the things requested. My 13 year old has a menagerie of virtual pets that have to be “fed” everyday – they could die if she neglects them!

  16. bored Says:

just reading this stuff cuz i’m bored…didn’t like it one bit! but i enjoy helping people get in some dough, so enjoy me while i’m still here =P

  17. Judy Sheldon Says:

Maybe there are some people that are bored and have nothing else to do, but personally I find it difficult enough to find time to accomplish all I want to do in any given day w/o playing pointless games. They also love to send out messages that “so & so is now interested in you”. Are they trying to be a dating service too? Not interested.

Good article. Thanks for the entertainment. Perhaps we should post it on FB to give them an idea?

  18. Cashmere Lashkari Says:

Karen and Judy I guess that’s what the Facebook folks had in mind when they came up with half these applications. Its the kids who must love them.
As for putting it on Facebook, I’ll just do it!

  20. Susan Keeping Says:

Unfortunately, most applications on Facebook are annoying. I have very few and most of them tend to be games right now. I absolutely hate the Super Wall and the Mega Wall.

  21. Mrs M Says:

I am not a facebook user, I have stuck to myspace and really don’t try to join any other social sites. I have seen many peoples profiles on facebook and just thought, hmm….there is a lot of stuff on here. I mean they list a lot of information on people’s pages it is kinda ridiculous. Who cares when someone became friends with another person?

  22. Preston Carew Says:

I find it ironic that you said that “poking” was a “waste of time” but then wrote an article about how annoying it is

  23. Cashmere Lashkari Says:

Mr Rexaniel I am already a bukisa member. Thank you.
Susan, I actually got rid of the super wall just a month ago. It was downright irritating.
Mrs M, I agree, there is total information overload on facebook.
Preston, I got something good out of being poked after all?!Don’t they say writer must suffer to write well.

  24. Aleksandar Radojicic Says:

I really don’t like these facebook applications.I used fb for some time, but the i realized that it was pretty dumb.I just couldn’t go on it everyday and do the same thing over and over again. It’s so frustrating.I feel the same way about My Space.Anyway, great article. These apps are really silly.Especially the poke.
