There is no code to delete to remove your old myspace background and when you enter a new code, it won’t show up. This simple trick will fix your problem.
When I first signed up on myspace I selected a background for my profile from something called the profile editor. Then they came out with this new 2.0 version which I don’t like. Recently I decided I wanted to change my background but the profile editor was gone. I started doing searches and all I could find was that you need to enter a code in the “about me” section. I did that and nothing happened and then I see comments saying you have to delete your old code first, but there was no code. I started getting ticked off cause I sent myspace a message and they said switch to 2.0 but I don’t want 2.0. I was about to give up when I found this simple trick. It seems to me Tom or whoever the heck he is should have posted this everywhere for all the people who want to know. All you have to do is go to your profile page and next to the URL in the address bar put in the simple code below and hit enter. The profile editor will come up, go to bottom of editor and click start over. Now when you put in a code in your about me section it should work. I hope you didn’t have as much trouble finding it as I did. Please refer to comments section below under the comment titled “here it is” you will find it there, use instructions above and your problem should be solved.
Now you have to be on 1.0 for this to work.
If you are on 2.0 its not hard to switch back to 1.0. There is a catch you have to be in that 90 day period to be allowed to switch back to 1.0, at least that’s what I heard. FROM WHAT I FOUND ON A FORUM ON YAHOO IF YOU GO PAST THE 90 DAY MARK ONE PERSON SAYS YOU CAN STILL GO BACK BUT YOU WILL HAVE LOST ALL YOUR INFO THAT YOU ORIGINALLY HAD WHICH I DON’T THINK MOST PEOPLE WOULD MIND IF THEY COULD JUST GO BACK. NOW THEN WHEN IT COMES TO NEW ACCOUNTS SOMEONE HAD A TEST ACCOUNT POSTED ON THE FORUM SO IT APPEARS FROM THAT NEW ACCOUNTS START OUT ON 2.0 AND THERE IS NO WAY TO SWITCH TO 1.0 BECAUSE YOU NEVER ORIGINALLY HAD IT. DOESN’T SEEM FAIR BUT THAT APPEARS TO BE THE WAY IT IS.
IF YOU HAVE MET SOMEONE ON MYSPACE ANOTHER SOCIAL WEBSITE OR IN PERSON I WOULD SUGGEST YOU GO TO THIS LINK http://people-u-know.com/tissa.htm AND DO A PEOPLE SEARCH ON THEM CHECK THEIR BACKGROUND VERY SOON. THIS IS NOT RUDE AND IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU DON’T TRUST THEM BUT THEY ARE A STRANGER PLAIN AND SIMPLE A STRANGER, PUT THIS SITE IN YOUR FAVORITES LIKE I DID, YOUR HAVE A RIGHT TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND AWARENESS IS THE BEST TOOL TO PREVENT SOMETHING FROM GOING WRONG.

March 1st, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Try clicking on your url when it highlights click it again, then push your right arrow to take cursor all the way to right and see if you can enter code then.

March 9th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
HI JENNIFER, did you try going to your profile page and putting &pe=1 next to your url in the address bar and hit enter. Let me know and we’ll go from there.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
OMG IT WORKS THNX
March 11th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Well I added the &pe=1 and it took me to “the page cannot be found” very frustrated HELP!!!!
March 11th, 2009 at 2:03 am
HI SHERRY, FOR IT TO WORK YOU HAVE TO BE ON 1.0 IF YOUR ON 2.0 YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO 1.0 AND WHEN YOU ADD THE CODE MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON YOUR PROFILE PAGE AND NOT THE HOME PAGE. AND YOU ONLY HAVE 90 DAYS TO SWITCH BACK TO 1.0 FROM 2.0 SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD. NOW IF YOUR ANSWER IS “DUH, I ALREADY KNOW THAT” THEN THIS WILL BE A WORSE CHALLENGE THAN WHAT I HAD. LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS EITHER WAY.
March 12th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Ok-I have 1.0 and I went to the MySpace URL above my pic and highlighted it-then it goes to Pick your MySpace URL-then What? That isn’t a spot to enter a code cause thats just your name people look up. Ugh! I’m so aggravated with this problem-please help!!
March 12th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Howdy KB, okay you have 1.0 good, now if you have any code in your “about me” section then delete it, now go to your PROFILE PAGE and go to the top of screen in the address bar next to the url and put in &pe=1 and hit enter thats it. It will bring up a window go to the bottom of that window and click start over. Now when you paste a code in your “about me” section it should work.
March 20th, 2009 at 1:33 am
OMG THANKS!!
)
Ive been trying to fix it for ages
March 20th, 2009 at 2:11 am
well ive tried it and when i put my code back in it goes back to how it was what i last had when i was on profile 1.0 like the colours i used on the bckground and stuff.
March 20th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Hello JF, okay make sure you are on 1.0, first.
Alright, now any code that you have entered in right now, go delete it. Next, go to your PROFILE page. Now, last but not least go to top of screen in the search bar and enter &pe=1 and hit enter remember you need to be on the profile page for this to work. One more thing I have been told if you leave 1.0 for 90 days you can’t go back maybe some of you guys can tell me for sure.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:11 am
I tried to stat it over on 1.0 but I can’t save it so it keeps going back to the old background. I know I’m at the right place but I need help.
March 22nd, 2009 at 10:57 pm
HOWDY KAM, AIN’T IT A PAIN IN THE BUTT. THE CODE YOUR TRYING TO SAVE JUST DELETE IT COMPLETELY OUT OF YOUR ABOUT ME SECTION OR IT MAYBE SOMEWHERE ELSE ANYWAY DELETE IT OUT. OKAY, NOW GO TO YOUR PROFILE PAGE AND WHEN YOU GET THERE GO TO TOP OF PAGE AND IN THE ADDRESS BAR NEXT TO THE URL ENTER THIS IN &pe=1 AND HIT ENTER. THIS WILL BRING UP A WINDOW GO TO BOTTOM AND CLICK START OVER. NOW GO TO YOUR ABOUT ME SECTION AND ENTER IN THE CODE OF THE PROFILE YOU WANT AND IT SHOULD WORK. I AM SORRY IF I HAVE TOTALLY MISSED YOUR PROBLEM IF I HAVE LET ME KNOW ALSO LET ME KNOW IF I HAVE HELPED. REMEMBER &pe=1 HAS TO BE ENTERED ON THE PROFILE PAGE NEXT TO THE URL IN THE ADDRESS BAR AT TOP OF SCREEN.
March 23rd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
why does it keep going back to my old background? like the edit i had when i used 1.0 if i go back some of the codes work but the rest is blue, which i had before.
i have followed your instructions, but it just doesn’t work ??
March 24th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Hey Jake, I would need to find out more but, from what I’ve read I would delete all codes that you have in your about me section or wherever it is delete it all. And then follow my instructions cause any code needs to be deleted before you do what I’ve said if that makes any sense. Please let me know what happens.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:36 am
okay so i have had 2.0 for a while but i want to go back to 1.0, but everytime i push the go back button, it just says start from scratch. it doesn’t give me a “go back to 1.0″ option.
HELP!
March 30th, 2009 at 12:42 am
okay so i have had 2.0 for a while but i want to go back to 1.0, but everytime i push the go back button, it just says start from scratch. it doesnt give me a go back to 1.0 option.
HELP!
March 30th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Hi Rh, sorry I don’t think I can help. If the only option it gives is start from scratch then what I have heard about not being able to go back to 1.0 once you have been on 2.0 for 90 days or more must be true. Let me know if you find a way around this problem I am sure others would like to know as well.
March 30th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
I tried it and it doesnt work, it takes me to a page that says :The page cannot be display…any help???
March 30th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
ok, now it takes me to the Beta profile editor and i cliked “start over” and the background changed but the contact tables and the text are still the same….i need help please!!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
i entered &pe=1. in the end of my addresss bar next to my url but nothing happened it just went back to my profile was that the right code to use?
March 31st, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Hello Mn, were you wanting to change your background or edit the text. You are on the right track if you want to change your background. All you have left to do is enter a code of the profile you want in your about me section and it should work. The code I gave in this article only erases your old background so you can use a new one. If you want to edit text of your profile go to my account and then edit profile and you can change text there. Let me know what happens.
March 31st, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Howdy Kayleigh, that is the right code. I don’t understand why it done that. You were on the profile page and not your home page, right. Try it again, make sure there is no code in your about me section and that you are on your profile page on 1.0. I would like to know what happens.
April 1st, 2009 at 11:20 am
whats the code i have to put in? x
April 1st, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Hello Gabby, If you are on 1.0 and you want to remove your old background that you got from the profile editor when you first signed up then this code will help. Go to your profile page on 1.0 and in the address bar next to the url enter in &pe=1 and hit enter this should bring up a window of the backgrounds you chose from in the beginning, go to the bottom of this page and click start over. Now your background will be white,If you do searches on myspace backgrounds you will find alot with the codes needed. Copy and paste the code you want into your about me section and it should work. If you have any code in your about me section now delete it before you start this.
April 5th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
hi, it won’t let me switch to profile 1.0
i tried everything, when i click ‘go back’
it doesnt show the option for me to switch back.
WHAT DO I DO?!
April 5th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Sorry Amber, I wish I had the answer your looking for if I come up with something I’ll put it on here. But right now all I have seen from doing a search myspace is that there are codes for 1.0 it seems alot of people have had the same problem you got. Let me know what helps I’m sure others would like to see it too.
April 6th, 2009 at 12:10 am
it doesn’t work. my sister needs it back to 1.0 cause you can put it on private again cause it doesn’t go on 2.0. and this didn’t work. I HATE 2.0!
April 6th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Hello !@#$ Myspace, when I signed up for myspace all there was at the time was 1.0 and 2.0 came later. To be honest I don’t know if you can go to 1.0 if you didn’t originally have it in the beginning if that makes any sense. Let me know here what you find out (preferrably under a different name) I am sure sooner or later someone will need your info cause they will have the same problem as you.
April 6th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
Hows it going Danaaaa, I know they say you can always switch back to 1.0 if you don’t like 2.0 but I have heard thats just for the first 90 days after that your stuck with 2.0. If you find out different please let me know I am sure others would like to know as well. Okay I had to say that part to get to this part The code you found does not switch you back to 1.0 it only works after you get back on 1.0 to help you erase your old background and start over with a new one. Again let me know what the problem was and what fixed it.
April 7th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
i forgot my myspace password and created me a new one but i cant go back to 1.0 it is stuck on 2.0 and i hate it
April 7th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Hey lil rob, how long have you had 2.0 before deciding to switch back I have heard if you stay on 2.0 for 90 days you are stuck with it. Nobody seems to know for sure if you or anyone reading this has reason to believe otherwise please let me know I am sure others would like to know as well since I have heard this same problem several times.
April 9th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
i dont understand
April 9th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Howdy Lolf, thats cool I don’t understand half the things I do.Ha!Ha! Lets forget about everybody else and and just take your problem and go from there. I am not a myspace guru by any means but basicly what this code does is erase you old background so you can get a new one only if you are on 1.0. The code is &pe=1 okay write that down. Now go to your PROFILE page on myspace go up to top of screen in search bar put in the code you wrote down next to the url that is already there hit enter. Now a window should come up go to bottom of window and click on start over. Now when you enter a code in your about me section it should work……….this is only on 1.0 alot of people have said they can’t switch back to 1.0 after being on 2.0 that is something I wish I had the fix for. I hope this helps let me know what happens.
April 9th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
okayy well ive been trying to change
it to 1.0 but for some odd readon the button wont show
up in the customize thing. please i need
help
April 9th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
also i just got my myspace
yesterday and it doesnt say it.
April 11th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Hello Liz, when you opened your account was it on 2.0 from the start? I opened mine before 2.0 came out is why I asked I was wondering does a new account have the option to go to 1.0 or did you have to originally have it in the beginning. I will do some checking.
April 12th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Hello everyone i am sure this will fix your problem as i have read this whole blog/forum and tried and tested many types of ways to switching to a profile 1.0 from a profile 2.0 where in most cases there is no option. I’ll leave an easy step-by-step guide as to how to do it.
1. go to your myspace profile. make sure the url looks something like this http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=XXXXXX
AND NOT
http://www.myspace.com/XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
2. you must add the wording ‘ &pe=1 ‘ to the end of the url at the top of your browser so that it looks like this:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=XXXXXX&pe=1
3. hit enter and you will be redirected to your profile again, this is normal so don’t give up yet!
4. go to customise profile and click in the top right hand corner of the screen a link that says ‘go back’ and you will now be offered a switch to profile 1.0 link!
i hope i helped any of you who needed it. i was in a state nearly thinking i was stuck with profile 2.0 after making a new account!
good luck!
April 12th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I tried this, but it did not work.
I recently created a new account on myspace, and I was automatically given the 2.0 version from the start.
I went to change it, but there was not ‘back to 1.0′ option available. Only a ‘Start from scratch’ one.
I’ve looked everywhere for a solution, but alas I have not found one.
Any ideas?
April 12th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Thomas Blackwell You Are The Man! Thanks for your helpful instruction I am sure alot will get use from it.
April 12th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Hey Destanee, I hope you get things working you might try comment number 42 hopefully that will solve your problem. The trick as I call it is not to help with going to 1.0 but for old accounts on 1.0 that want to change their background from the one selected in the profile editor when they first signed up. A new account from what I have heard does not have the option of going to 1.0 but Thomas Blackwell (comment #42) may prove that wrong I don’t know if his info is for old account or if it will work on new accounts as well but I would try it just in case.
April 13th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Try going to your profile and hit Control F5. This will give you the original myspace page that you can edit like normal. It worked for me. Believe me, I understand the frustration.
April 14th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
ahh none of these are working
I HATE 2.0 someone give me
another way i tried all them!
April 16th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
None of these are working for me as well. I just made this account last night and I am so stuck on 2.0. I can’t stand it, it’s so ugly.
April 17th, 2009 at 3:10 am
#42, that does not work. Any other ideas?
April 18th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
this is so frustrating. can’t we all send one big complaint to the creators and tell them our dislike with 2.0? We should at least be given an option to switch back to 1.0 even if it’s a new account.
Every thing I’ve read hasn’t worked for me.
April 18th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
omfg this didnt work what code are you talking about
April 18th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
TTTTTHHHAAAANNNKKKK you #42 your god for me today!!!
April 19th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Help i dont like the 2.0 version!!!!
April 20th, 2009 at 2:29 am
Hey omg looks like you went from really mad to really glad really quick! I would like to know in case your back on here was your account old or new.
To the rest of the gang looks like comment #42 did work for one person but I don’t know if the account was old or new. Just like bridgit (#48) she had made her account just the night before if she finds a fix I hope she lets us know.
omg had asked what code was I talking about which is the one that started the buzz on this page in the first place the code is &pe=1 but again that is NOT to get you back to 1.0 it is for people who are on 1.0 but they don’t want their old original background anymore.
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:21 am
hey okay so i went to make my own bckground on the profle editor and i did bt now i want to change it and when i do hit start over it doesnt clear it its te same background as before and it wont come off. how do i get it off??
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:44 am
Hi CDR, sorry to bother you. My problem is that after the 1.0 editor disappeared, I switched to 2.0. Absolutely hating it, I switched to 1.0, but now an annoying theme is stuck and I can’t get rid of it. I have tried entering “&pe=1″ into the end of the URl, the page refreshes my profile, but the so called 1.0 editor becomes a immobile white box on Firefox, and a white box with a half way though loading screen on Safari.
Any ideas
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:05 am
Hello Paigey, if you have any codes in your about me section go delete them. Go to your PROFILE page and in the search bar up at the top of screen immediately next to your url enter in &pe=1 and hit enter. It should bring up a window go to the bottom of that window and click start over. Now you can go enter in codes for a profile you have found off the web paste the codes into your about me section and it should work. This works for some and others it doesn’t if this doesn’t work for you try comment # 46 and if that doesn’t work try comment # 42.
April 23rd, 2009 at 10:14 am
Hey Chelsea, no bother I just wish it had of worked. I would try comments 46 and then 42. If you still have no luck then I would go to another computer. Sounds like it wants to work but something is blocking it. Yes I would go to a friends house or the library maybe and try it on their computer. But before you make that trip try those comments I mentioned first. Please let me know what happens cause I have others who have said it doesn’t work for them but it did for me and at least 5 other people who marked a like on this page. I hope you find what works for you!
April 24th, 2009 at 11:28 am
help me please it dosent work
April 24th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Hello Rakiia, (AWSOME NAME) BUT ANYWAY. I am assuming your talking about your background. If you are reading this then that means you still havent’t found something that works. I know the feeling, well I am no myspace genius but describe your problem and I will tell you what I would do. And if I can’t help you maybe someone else reading this page can.
May 2nd, 2009 at 5:51 am
okayyyy NOW i follwed everythin you said and it didnt work…lol and THEN i pressed F5 and VIOLA!! my new codes are working!!
F5 man F5 lol
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:41 pm

May 16th, 2009 at 12:30 am
Question here….how do I change my background on 1.0? Every time I clicked on Profile Editor, nothing came up…
May 16th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
I have been lazy!!! But anyway hello Alexis, click on your url and click again hit right arrow button until it stops and enter code.
Hello ls, your right it doesn’t work if you want to change your background colors but it does erase your old background. Which is what you need before entering a profile code that you may have downloaded from one of the many sights.
Hello Danielle, how long were you on 2.0 before trying to go back to 1.0 was it over 90 days?
May 16th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Howdy Takkara8, are you on 1.0 now if not then do it first. Now if you have any codes pasted in your about me section delete them. So now you are on 1.0 with no codes pasted anywhere and you have a profile you don’t like. Now go to your PROFILE page not your home page where the updated things are, your PROFILE page where all your friends comments are. When you get to your PROFILE page go to the top of screen in the address bar next to your url and enter &pe=1 and hit enter this will bring up a window you might recognize go to bottom of window and click start over. Now you should be able to go to one of the sites that have free myspace profiles copy their code and paste it in your about me section. I hope this helps please let us know either way I know it works for some but others it doesn’t maybe try another computer.
THIS ONLY WORKS ON 1.0 IT DOES NOTHING BUT ERASE YOUR PROFILE SO YOU CAN ENTER A NEW ONE. &pe=1 has nothing to do with getting you from 2.0 to 1.0.
May 16th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Hey Misty, check out comment #69 if your still having trouble let us know. Actually, let us know either way.
May 26th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I tired this, and at first it did not work…until.
You need to go to EDIT THEME…then click start over.
May 26th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
thanks for putting this up, i do think its unfair for new members not to have 1.0 which i prefer better. i made a new one because my other one got deleted somehow and i think 2.0 is ugly so i will just have to deal with it until they find a way to change it!):
May 27th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Hey Tabby, I am glad you found what works for you and thanks for sharing your input it will probably help someone else. I have noticed what works for one doesn’t work exactly the same for another.
May 27th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Howdy Rose, THANKS! To be honest I had no idea this would happen to this extreme I had trouble finding out how to reset my profile background and when I finally found something that worked I figured I would share it,now if I could just find the answer for people who don’t want 2.0 a way to go to 1.0 then I would be getting something people really need or want whatever the case maybe. Let us know of any tricks you might come across.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:37 am
aslmlkm
June 7th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Okay. So if you want to get back to 2.0 and you’ve had it for longer then 90 days. post a blog. then go to the customize profile. and then hit the go back button. It will then come up with the go back to 1.0! (: Also, after you remove the old layout you have to put the new code in and do control F5 for it to work!!
June 9th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Thanks RachelAleesha, sounds like you know what your talking about. I am certain someone will find your advice helpful!!!
June 9th, 2009 at 12:21 am
??????? aslmlkm ??????? I need help with this one.
June 11th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
im not on 2.0 ive done all of this stuff. getting to the editor has never been a problem i hit start over and it appears to delete everything but then when i view my page its the same. i deleted the image from my photo bucket thinkig that breaking the link would work no such now my page just has this image has been deleted over and over again. i hate myspace so much
June 13th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
2.0 layouts suck.
They need to make it where you can change it bak to 1.0 without having to already had it before.
June 21st, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Ok, I know a way that’s probably a lot easier to change your profile than all this confusing stuff. So you know how to change your profile back to 1.0, right? Well there’s a website that some of your might have heard of: Coolchaser.com. So give this a shot you 1.0 lovers!
1. Type in Coolchaser.com and find what you want to be your backround.
2. When it shows a myspace page, that would be what your profile would look like. If you don’t like the look of that backround, there’s a bar on the side that you can change it with.
3. Once you’ve found the backround and theme you like, press save. Don’t worry if it’s 2.0 then.
4. It will take you to a page where it has a code. You should see 2.0 and 1.0. Click 1.0 then copy the code. Go to your a About Me section and paste it there. Next time you see your profile it should look great!
If you can’t figure this out don’t worry! It took some time for me to figure this out too! Post a comment and I’ll help you!
Good luck!

I FOUND SOMETHING THAT WORKS !!!!! IF YOU HAVE 2.0 THIS WILL GET YOU BACK TO 1.0
MySpace accounts created after April 2nd
do not have the option of using 1.0
However, there is a solution to this
To switch back to Profile 1.0
Post a new blog with any Subject and Body
Now click ‘Customize Profile’ from the drop
down list when you hoover over ‘Profile’
Then click ‘Go Back’ in the top right
like you normally would, now you
have the option to Switch to Profile 1.0

BUT THANKYOU SOOO MUCH! I LOVE YOU
August 30th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
i just found out how to do it! i dont know how i did, but i did. the entering &pe=1 didnt work for me, so this is what i did.
ok, so what you do, for 1.0, is you go to the edit my profile or whatever. itll say page cannot be displayed.
then, go to the url in the address bar it should read: profileedit.myspace.com/yourmyspacelinkhere&pe=1
DELTE THE ‘PROFILEEDIT.’ and then click go. it should load on the side. i guess, if manually inserting &pe=1 doesnt work, do this it worked for me.

WHO EVER WANTS TO MESSAGE THE CODE TO ME CLICK HERE
myspace.com/elizabethbala
my friend nneds the 1.0 back and im doing this for her birthday
December 11th, 2009 at 1:48 am
The code is &pe=1……… this is to get you to a window that will let you set your profile back to default like it was when you first signed up you have to do this before copying and pasting a profile code in your about me section then you can go get a design you like for the background of your profile. If you are on 2.0 then getting backgrounds is different. This code only concerns the profile. I wish I had a trick that would let people go back to 1.0 but this is not it. The address bar is all the way at the top http will be all the way to the left of the bar click on it once, it will turn blue click on it again and arrow all the way to the right this is where the code goes thanks
December 13th, 2009 at 12:10 am

Still nothing, eh? I came upon this page because I was trying to change the photo that makes up my profile background in 1.0. But I also understand the issue with trying to switch from one version to the other, so I’ll try to help.
Here are the fruits of my searching… this is a link to the question I posted on Yahoo! Answers:

And here is the e-mail correspondence I had with MySpace Support in an effort to try to figure out how to edit my background picture in 1.0:
(from me to myspace support:)
Hi,
I really like my profile the way it is and I want to keep profile 1.0. But now when I go in to profile editor 1.0, it won’t load. It says I either have javascript turned off or need the latest version of flash player. I have both of these things fixed, so why wont profile editor 1.0 load? I just want to change the photo on my background, and if I can get into the profile editor I can do that without a problem. I have already searched online and have run out of places to look.
Thanks for your help,
Lindsay

Dear MySpace Friend;
Based on what you’ve told us, our system pulled together some information on how you can customize the look of your MySpace 1.0 profile.
If you’re not sure which profile version you’re using, log into MySpace, mouse over Profile (in the upper nav bar), choose Customize Profile (from the drop-down menu) and your current version will appear at the top of the page. If you’re using 1.0, we recommend you click the yellow button labeled “Switch to 2.0” for ultimate control over your profile’s design and layout!
To customize the design of your MySpace 1.0 profile, here’s what you do:
1. Log into MySpace
2. From your homepage, mouse over Profile (in the upper nav bar) and choose Edit Profile
3. Click on Profile Editor (located in the upper right corner)
4. Preview the ever-expanding Theme Library (on the top of the left column)
5. when you find something you like, click Save & Publish!
6. If you want to get really creative, you can edit colors, theme positions or even add your own images by clicking Edit Theme (on the top of the left column)
7. Remember to save your changes (in the upper right corner)

Hello,
I am using 1.0, as I stated in the first message. I can get through to step 3. But when I get to the place where the theme library should be (step 4), there is only a message that says “you either have javascript turned off or need the latest version of flash player.” I have corrected both of these problems (I have javascript turned on and I have the latest version of flash), so it would appear that the theme library in 1.0 is not working properly. I have asked around other places online and it seems like many other people have come to this same conclusion. I have also tried this on multiple computers in multiple browsers (Safari, Firefox, and IE).
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly; hopefully the theme library in 1.0 can be fixed.

Hello,
Thanks for contacting MySpace.
We apologize for the inconvenience but customization of Profile 1.0 is no longer supported. Please upgrade to Profile 2.0 for customization of your profile.

—I got this message last night. So the verdict is: if you signed up for myspace after April 2009 you are stuck with 2.0. If you had 1.0 and switched to 2.0 within the last 90 days, you can still go back. If 90 days have passed you are stuck with 2.0.
If you are using 1.0 and want to customize (as opposed to edit) your profile–edit the style of text, edit your background, the theme library is no longer an option. You have to use HTML code entered through the “About me” section. You find this code online by searching for free myspace background codes. BUT! So far I have not been able to get this to work.
For now I am stuck with the same text and background image. But I refuse to switch to 2.0. I’ll be back if there are any new developments.

So far I have not been able to get this to work.
For now I am stuck with the same text and background image. But I refuse to switch to 2.0. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ll be back if there are any new developments.

Still nothing, eh? I came upon this page because I was trying to change the photo that makes up my profile background in 1.0. But I also understand the issue with trying to switch from one version to the other, so I will try to help.
Here is the e-mail correspondence I had with MySpace Support in an effort to try to figure out how to edit my background picture in 1.0:
(from me to myspace support:)
Hi,
I really like my profile the way it is and I want to keep profile 1.0. But now when I go in to profile editor 1.0, it will not load. It says I either have javascript turned off or need the latest version of flash player. I have both of these things fixed, so why wont profile editor 1.0 load? I just want to change the photo on my background, and if I can get into the profile editor I can do that without a problem. I have already searched online and have run out of places to look.
Thanks for your help,
Lindsay

Dear MySpace Friend;
Based on what you have told us, our system pulled together some information on how you can customize the look of your MySpace 1.0 profile.
If you are not sure which profile version youre using, log into MySpace, mouse over Profile (in the upper nav bar), choose Customize Profile (from the drop-down menu) and your current version will appear at the top of the page.

But when I get to the place where the theme library should be (step 4), there is only a message that says -you either have javascript turned off or need the latest version of flash player- I have corrected both of these problems (I have javascript turned on and I have the latest version of flash), so it would appear that the theme library in 1.0 is not working properly. I have asked around other places online and it seems like many other people have come to this same conclusion. I have also tried this on multiple computers in multiple browsers (Safari, Firefox, and IE).
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly; hopefully the theme library in 1.0 can be fixed.
-Lindsay

—I got this message last night. So the verdict is: if you signed up for myspace after April 2009 you are stuck with 2.0. If you had 1.0 and switched to 2.0 within the last 90 days, you can still go back. If 90 days have passed you are stuck with 2.0.
