There are millions of websites on the Internet. You don’t surf all of them. Simply because you can’t do that and more so because you don’t need to. But there are few websites that you surf almost everyday and can’t live without them. These websites are now part of your life and the truth is, right now they dominate the Internet. Here are the names of the websites that most of us surf whether we like them or not!
- Google: This is a very obvious number one. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that there’s no web-surfer in this world who doesn’t visit Google. Whenever you need information for your writing, research or for anything imaginable under the sun, you Google it. In this Internet era, you just can’t live without Google.
- Facebook: Many of us don’t like it. But remember most of us do like it. There are so many people who don’t do Facebook regularly or hate it for some reasons or the other – yet they still have their accounts on Facebook. So you like to do social networking or not, you can’t deny you have a Facebook account and may be you use it to advertise your business and creativity!
- MySpace: It’s the fact that despite so many social network sites, MySpace still rules as many people say this is the most popular social network on the Internet. As the story goes, many singers and musicians got instant success using this network. Others have used it to launch their business careers. Though MySpace has lots of spam but because of its vast networking, this site has become very popular.
- YouTube: This is the entertainment zone. We can’t help but feel that the Internet is full of YouTube videos. Whenever you want to see an interesting or unusual video, you surf the YouTube. The advantage of this site is, if anyone wants to work in the entertainment industry, he/she can upload the videos and share those with millions of audience.
- Twitter: Yes, I know many would say they don’t like it. But don’t you use it? Twitter is basically a ‘Micro blogging’ site, which allows you to push out small size of updates (not more than 140 characters). Started as a SMS based service, now it has become more and more popular everyday. One of the main reasons for Twitter being famous is the presence of the celebrities. There are number of celebrities over there in Twitter. So Twitter is fun, useful to share piece of knowledge and promote your links and gives you some benefits. And you know you Tweet!
- Wikipedia: You need information, from Google you land to Wikipedia. You have information on almost every topic here. Though not all the information is correct, yet we visit this site just to get informed quickly.
- eBay: Millions of net surfers surf eBay, mainly because eBay gives the opportunities. For creating online business and then reaching to millions of buyers, eBay is a good business platform. It has gained the honour of one of the most popular websites.
- Digg: Digg may not be everyone’s favourite. But a lot of people use Digg to their advantage. People who write articles use Digg for more traffic. You can find a lot of good websites of various types on Digg. At present, it’s a very popular website.
- Yahoo: I think without Yahoo this list will be incomplete. We can’t forget Yahoo. Yahoo, is the second most popular site after Google. There’s no shortage of traffic on Yahoo and still favourite of lots of people.
- StumbleUpon: I’m listing this site ignoring many popular and interesting sites. So this can be a matter of little debate. But the reason behind putting StumbleUpon ahead of others is very simple yet important. In the jungle of Internet, it’s very hard to find good and useful sites quickly. In the StumbleUpon you can find lots of good sites in one place and the layout of this site is very user friendly. Recently, SU is come one of the most preferred sites for the surfers and its popularity has been raised. Many of you Stumble your own sites every now and then. Am I Wrong?
I know there a few more sites you can add as there is a huge list of popular sites. But the above mentioned sites have a big impact on you and you can not deny it. So you like them or hate them, they are now part of your daily net surfing and you continue to visit these sites time and again.

I think it depends on your purpose of using the internet. If you don’t have a business or aren’t looking for exposure (ie as a writer, singer, etc), then not all of those are necessary.
Nicely written article.
