What will become of a world where everyone uses StumbleUpon?
The internet is serious business, and serious businesses require employees in order to stay thriving and in working order. There are so many users out there on the internet, and in order for the internet to keep on growing, we need people to create things to entertain people, because that is what many people are on there for in the first place. But as we speak, the huge community of the internet is experiencing and extremely horrible problem that will lead to its demise, and that problem is StumbleUpon.
What is StumbleUpon?
Before we go too much further into this, lets take a look at what StumbleUpon is and why it must be destroyed. StumbleUpon is a Firefox/IE extension that allows it’s users to explore the internet based on what their interests are. When you install the extension, you will be asked to create a user account. Then given a variety of content types and subjects that you want to find. You will then be given a toolbar with an evil little green and blue button that is placed on the far left of that toolbar. It is that button that will eventually be the downfall of the internet.
Once you click on that button a few times, you will get sent to various sites that StumbleUpon thinks you should go to based on what information you give it. Once you visit the site, you then have the option to tell the evil extension whether you “Like it” or you “Don’t Like it”. That is just when it begins. The more you click “I like” or “I don’t like” after you visit a page, the more narrowed down your websites will be that you get to see every time you “Stumble”.
So basically, you more you click the button, the more interesting stuff you get to see each time you click it.
Why it Must be Stopped
All this might sound fin, but have you thought about what will happen to all of the content that gets produced on the internet? Let me show you a relevant graph on the subject:

As you can see in the graph, when you install StumbleUpon, you productivity is slowley lost, until you are not doing anything productive on the internet at all, just clicking that button for endless nights at your computer chair.
What would happen if everyone gives into this and installs the extension? All third-party internet production would be lost, thats blogging, youtube, etc. Once everyone has given in, the internet will be controlled by websites like Myspace, Facebook, Google, and Digg. But with no content being created by its users, the interweb will collapse in upon itself. While users, are Stumbling at their computers, looking for good content, there will not be any.
Stop the Stumbling, Fight the Power!!

This is an interesting point of view but I feel it is flawed because it assumes that the majority of internet users are mindlessly clicking buttons for no reason. Stumbleupon allows the progressive improvement of the content in the etherworld that is presented to one by supporting good quality content and letting the rest fade away. Stumbleupon is used “at will”, by choice, when you want to, and is a beneficial addition for casual browsing. It will never replace research on the net, which many more mature “internetters” are using the net for. If it is entertainment that one is primarily looking for, the television has no end of mindless programming for those that wish to vegetate.

That is what he was saying. That when people install Stumbleupon they will start mindlessly clicking the button because its addicting. Its not really addicting but StumbleUpon users know what it feels like. It is like cigarettes. And would stumble upon improve anything? It is pointless and hurts the economy! Every time you push the magic button a little Asian kid dies a little on the inside.

Well it wasn’t really a serious article…I was just kind of exaggerating the effect StumbleUpon has on people.
