If you are busy bookmarking your articles, here are some tips for bookmarking that may help you to gain a wider audience.
Most of us do it. We bookmark our articles, hoping to drive traffic to them. Are there bookmarking tips that can help you to achieve a greater level of success?
Tips for Bookmarking
- Sign up for a number of sites
- When bookmarking articles, write interesting descriptions, stating the main thrust of your article so that readers can determine, at a glance, whether they want to read more.
- It goes without saying that your article title should include keywords
- Use those keywords as tags
Social Bookmarking Tips
Triond has made it easy to bookmark articles by providing the Share button. Writers simply click on the Content tab to view their articles. Over to the right, the Share button is a launching pad to numerous bookmarking sites, sending your bookmarking links out into cyberspace.
My Favorite Bookmarking Sites:
Admittedly, bookmarking articles involves effort, I use certain techniques, however–and I’ll share these bookmarking tips that make the process easier.
- Write your article description and leave it open in Word, WordPad or Notepad
- Underneath, create a line of keywords separated by commas with no spaces
- Run your mouse over your description and copy it
Now, hit the Share button and select your first bookmarking service. When the page opens, paste in your description. Next copy/past the line of keywords. (You’ll notice that the bookmarking link automatically loads.)
Since the keywords are the last item you copied, when you go to the next bookmarking site, paste in the keywords first (since they are still “active” sitting on the Clipboard), then go back and grab the description.
Keep doing this, alternating between description and keywords. By simply pasting them into the boxes, you save so much time, over having to type everything repeatedly (the thought makes me yawn!).
Additional Social Bookmarking Tips
- Once I’ve finished bookmarking an article, I then grab the URL and submit it to “Add your URL to Google.” Some people prefer to let the article mature before doing this.
Are there additional tips for bookmarking successfully? Yes, and I’ll share what I do:
While I’m at a site, say Stumble, Digg, or Mixx, I go to other articles in the same category. For example, if I’ve just submitted a health article, I will scroll through other health articles and Stumble or Digg them if I think they have merit. I also take the time to comment occasionally. Why do I do this?
- I don’t want to be viewed as a spammer, solely promoting my own articles, so I bookmark similar articles, hoping that others who are searching for articles in that category will see my activity and my articles.
- By commenting, I’m an active member of these communities.
- If others happen to see and like what I’ve bookmarked, they might add me as a friend or contact or actually read some of my articles. A number of people have added me as a friend at Facebook, simply because of liking my articles.
- If you keep showing up, others notice. This is part of creating an online presence.
- When I come across interesting material, I might link to it in my blogroll or include the link in a blog post, which can drive trackbacks, helping to bump up my blog’s PR.
- When I see interesting blogs, I might opt to follow them, and in return, receive increased readership of my own blogs.
- Bookmarking inevitably sparks inspiration. When looking at other articles, ideas form.
As can be seen, this activity is all good, contributing to a much larger marketing picture.

Thanks, Everyone,
I find the copy/paste idea for strings of keywords or descriptions particularly time-saving.
I have a new feature at my writing blog: ‘Meet My Readers.’ I’m creating a page for those who comment at the blog. Writers can submit a short bio and links to their site. Read more at http://www.writeandearnaliving.com

Very good tips, Athlyn! This is good advice for building a network of other writers who share your interests. And it helps to build an audience for your writing!

Great tips, and you’re right about being active in the community of those bookmarking sites.

I think it helps to work around an audience that is already interested in your subject matter. This is why I’m trying to comment on other articles that are similar.
I’m always trying to think outside of the box, to determine is more effective.

Your points are valid but one must also be careful not to be penalized by bookmarking to many sites at the same time in the same order and using the same title and summary texts.
