Social Bookmarking Sites

Social Bookmarking

You know that you can get your work out there by using Social Bookmarking sites. You’ve used of Delicious and Digg, are there any others out there?

If you read my article on Search Engines, you may have said to yourself “Hey, why didn’t he do one for Social Bookmarking sites?”  Well, here it is.  You’ve heard of Digg, and Delicious, and Xomba.  These are what are called social bookmarking sites.  They are a place, a forum if you will, where you can share with others a number of things.  You can share a video you think is funny, or you can share a great article on snowboarding, or perhaps the latest gossip about Twilight.

If you are a writer, you can use these resources to support your work by submitting them for sharing.

But you go to Google and type in social bookmarking and all kinds of sites come up.  You go to a few of them and they don’t look anything like Digg or Delicious.  That’s right, that’s because they’re not.  Some of them just offer a utility to save your bookmarks and access them online and not share them with anyone.  Some are just for sharing with your friends.

Many will have a widget, or toolbar extension, especially for FireFox, so that bookmarking becomes even easier.

I tried to weed out any that did not follow the straightforward model used by Digg, Delicious, Xomba, Redgage, Reddit, and other similar sites.  For some of these you may have to go to the forum or public area to see the listings of articles people have shared.

Warning – some of these sites are very specific regarding what they want in terms of submissions, such only literary work, or only sites related to engineering or shopping.  FOLLOW THE RULES!!!  Failure to follow the rules might get you banned, or worse you will get all future links from the site you linked, banned from submissions.  So don’t ruin it for other Triond or Bukisa or Helium writers.  Participate in the forums, and don’t only submit your work.  Mix it up and submit some stuff from sites you like, or perhaps even some of your writer friends works.  (Better yet, why don’t bookmark this article, and my article on Search Engines, so you can have them handy any time you need them.)

So, I’ve down the first part of the work for you.  Now go out there and support your work.
