Advantages: Free calling to other Skype users, very user-friendly, also on devices.
Disadvantages: Occaisional lack of quality.
I first started using Skype when I saw my phone bill- and I’ve never had to worry about it again!
Skype is free, easy and very easy to use- add contacts, either from a search or even from your outlook contacts- this is a great time saver.
So I started replacing land line calls with Skype calls; the quality is brilliant, 80% of the time both voices are clear and there are no problems. The remaining 20% consist of minor problems which can be resolved by redialing. The video calls are also fantastic, better than any other program I’ve seen- receiving live video is a far better way to communicate than just audio. Compare this to your ordinary phone- you pay for audio alone- on Skype you can feel as though you are in the same room as your friend for free!
Now Skype is even on hand- held devices such as Blackberrys, some mobile phones and also on the iPhone/ iPod touch. I have the application on my iPod touch, and with a microphone attached, the call quality is just as good as on a computer.
This is one of the few great free applications out there on the internet; it uses little memory and turns your computer (or device) into an extra-functional phone.
Summary: Give it a go, and make your friends get it too, it will save a lot of money.
