The PayPal system has provided a means for consumers to purchase items on the Internet with extreme ease. PayPal allows each account holder to add several credit cards and/or debit cards to fund the account. This article will provide a step-by-step guide on how a PayPal account holder can change a credit card on their account. With this guide, a PayPal account holder can learn to manage their account and ensure the desired credit card pays for their purchases.

Things You’ll Need:

  • PayPal password

Step 1:

Start your computer and open a web browser, go to www.paypal.com.

Step 2:

Log-in to your account using the Account login box on the left hand side. Type your ‘e-mail address’ and your ‘PayPal password’ in the applicable boxes.

Step 3:

Navigate to the main page. Here you will have tabs that have labels of: My Account, Send Money, Request Money, Merchant Services, Products & Services, and Shopping. The main page should open with the My Account tab opened. If not, click on the ‘My Account’ tab.

Step 4:

Under the My Account tab, 6 menu options appear that include: Overview, Add Funds, Withdraw, History, Resolution Center, and Profile. Hover your mouse over the ‘Profile’ menu option. This will cause a drop down menu to appear. Select the option “Add or Edit Credit Card”.

Step 5:

Review the list of all the credit and debit cards. On the right hand side under the column labeled Action, click the “Remove” link. A new page appears to confirm your choice. Click the “Remove” button to finalize the removal.

Step 6:

Return to the Credit and Debit Cards page again. Towards the middle of the page lurks a yellow button named Add a Card. Click on this button. At this point, enter all needed Credit Card or Debit Card information. Also, the page will offer an option to use the existing billing address or you can enter new billing address (the address where you receive your statements). In order to confirm your card number, the billing address must be the one displayed on your statements. Once you have the correct billing address, click on the button labeled “Add Card” at the lower right hand side.

Tips & Warnings

  • Debit Cards are also called check cards, ATM cards or banking cards. All of these are accepted if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo.

If you remove all registered credit cards from your account, it will prevent you from sending credit card payments.
