Don’t ever think you are a “nobody”, everyone has a degree of star quality. You just need to know how to apply it, and get recognized.
We all dream of being famous, having the “15 minutes of fame” that apparently we will all get.
How many of you sit and think that you simply wouldn’t be that lucky, or just aren’t good enough to achieve that?
I am living proof that it is possible to make a success of life, and make it into the public eye. And believe it or not, it actually isn’t that difficult to achieve.
Don’t ever think that you are a nobody. You may well you may lack confidence because you perceive yourself to be overweight, of that you think you don’t have the right look to appear in the “public eye”, if you aim to get yourself seen, then there is a way.
Where to Start
For me it was a case of responding to a junk email. We all get them from time to time, and like me you probably just delete them before you’ve even read them.
I was on maternity leave, and stuck at home with a small baby, who unfortunately was sick too. I rarely left the house.
The internet became a close friend of mine, and gave me much needed contact with the outside world.
The email I received was for a website called
Star Now. In short it is a casting website for amateur and professional people who have some form of talent.
As far as I knew I had no “star quality” and certainly had nothing to offer from a media perspective. But when I looked more into what the website had to offer, there was lots that appealed to me.
Small Price to Pay
O.K, so as with many things in life, there is always a price attached to gaining anything. I realized that to get the most out of ‘Star Now’ I had to subscribe to the site, in order to receive daily notification of roles and projects that I could apply for.
But for a few pounds per month, and to have got me where I am now, it really was/is money well spent.
There are other similar websites,
Be On Screen
being another, but you will find that they all demand a small charge for their service.
How My Life Changed
Every day I would look forward to seeing what castings and opportunities the website had to offer. Each day new postings would appear, with opportunities for people from all walks of life.
One ‘magazine’ opportunity that caught my eye was one asking women to apply to be part of a ‘walking programme’ to get fit.
Having been very ill throughout my pregnancy, and advised not to exercise, this seemed a perfect one for me to apply for.
I sent a few brief details about myself, explaining why I felt I would be good for the role, and within a week I had heard back from the person leading the hunt.
To cut a long story short, as a result of my very brief ‘sales pitch’ about myself, I have been selected as one of 10 women in the U.K to take part in a ‘walking programme’ for Good Housekeeping Magazine.
I have recently enjoyed a fun photo shoot along with the other women, and look forward to seeing myself in the magazine in 2008.
Apart from the buzz of being in a magazine, the walking programme has really helped me get back on the road to fitness, so the whole thing has been well worth it.
New Opportunities
As a result of my brush with fame, I have been inspired to start writing myself. I have recently been invited to write for a quarterly women’s magazine, and I am absolutely made up with this.
When not on maternity leave, I am an everyday mum and nurse. I am nothing special, I myself am overweight and live an average lifestyle, but for someone, somewhere that has appeal.
I am relishing in my new found love for writing, and it has spurred me on to want to better myself.
I am in the running to appear on a well known t.v cookery show, and should hear any day if I have been successful. Again, following a simple email submission to Star Now, and a subsequent trip to London for a fun audition, I have opened up yet another niche for myself!
Who would have thought 6 months ago that dowdy old me would be doing what I am now, and be enjoying my 15 minutes of fame on a much grander scale.
My Advice
If you need a life changing opportunity, or just want to boost you morale, then give this a go. It is the best thing I have tried for a very long time, if not ever and really has de me realize that I have a lot to offer.
There is also money to be made from some of the work you can apply for, so look carefully at each option before you apply, as if you have got what it takes, it can actually be quite lucrative.
