Comparison of Webanswers and Yahoo Answers

I love answering people’s questions and helping them so it was no surprise that I found Yahoo! Answers many years ago, and WebAnswers more recently.

Yahoo! Answers is an easy to use site, people who already have a yahoo account are ready to go, others can join easy enough. Users get points for asking questions, answering them, and more points if their answer is selected as best.

WebAnswers is different, while it is easy to join, users actually get paid for views on their answers by the use of GoogleAdsense.

Both sites have age restrictions, Yahoo! Answers requires users be no younger than 13, WebAnswers requires users be at least 18 years of age.

Yahoo! Answers is pretty liberal about allowing users to post links to other websites as reference material or further reading, WebAnswers frowns on this as you are sending people away from their site.

Both sites have many categories with hundreds of questions, and both encourage users to ask, and answer questions as they desire.

Both sites require a reasonable level of courtesy and manners, however I have found that WebAnswers is generally a much more supportive group where insults to the asker are far more rare than you see on Yahoo! Answers.

People on WebAnswers are in line a bigger reward if their answer is picked as the best and Awarded, as such the people who answer questions tend to put in more effort and insults are not as common. People on WebAnswers want the Award because if they get it then get more revenue from views to that answer, people on Yahoo! Answers who get the best answer simply get more points.

Spelling, grammar, and length of answer, generally do not count for much on Yahoo! Answers, but are very important on WebAnswers as they reflect on a person’s quality score, the higher a quality score a person has, the more opportunities they have to make money. As such some people tend to be sloppy on Yahoo! Answers, but more professional on WebAnswers – this is also related to the lower age allowed by Yahoo! Answers too.

Yahoo! Answers is better known and far more active, I would even guess they have at least 10 times the users making it a far faster site, with more

So while both sites are fun, I have found the answers to be much better quality on WebAnswers making it a superior site for people who need real information. You may get fewer answers if you are a person needing urgent help, so using both can be good.

If you are a person who just wants to feel good about helping others, you will find more answers on Yahoo! Answers, but if you are interested in possibly making a few extra dollars a month then WebAnswers is the way to go, just be sure to give answers that are at least 2 paragraphs long and ideally with more information than the user asked for, and follow the rules.

Good comparison! Webanswers really won the contributors over with the Adsense compensation which Yahoo Answers could not provide.
