Protect yourself and others yes I write these and yes they are in my home town paper as well.
Last week we talked about my past and what I have accumulated over several years. I was in the midst of explaining how much your identity was getting sold for and by identity I mean social security number, credit card details, address, and mother’s maiden name. All these people who are involved in scamming usually hang out in a chat room waiting for the right time to advertise the information they have stolen from you. When they see there opportunity they let everyone know they have something to sell. Usually from what I have seen your identity gets sold for three to five dollars. All the work you have done to make your credit good ruined for a little more then a gallon of gas. There is really one person who can prevent this from happening and it is you. Our Government can’t keep up with everything at one time so it is up to us the people to make the difference.
On a happier note banks and credit card companies are cracking down on protection making it harder to use your information anywhere making the hacker call in or verify a lot of information. I would say that 30% of the credit cards they get are no good because they can’t use them to get what they want.
Not only is internet fraud a huge deal but mail fraud and telemarketing fraud are as well. I am sure you have seen it on the news sometime or another. But the fact is it is happening everywhere. I don’t know if you have got a weird check or money order in the mail out of nowhere wanting you to cash it and send a percent back to the original owner thanking you for helping them out but I have. There are really two options you can do, take it to the bank and ask them to verify it if you are not sure if you may have really won it or not or throw it away because ninety nine percent of the time it is a counterfeit check and you will have to pay it back .
Whenever you get a call for anything remember being stingy on the phone about giving out your personal information is ok. Matter of fact most companies won’t even ask you for anything like that over the phone, they will ask you to come in.
We talked about one part of identity theft now I will talk about another. Once the hackers get the personal information there are a few things they can do now. First they will apply for credit cards with the information they have. Secondly if they have the credit card details they will try ordering thing online to fit there needs or to sell for money. The bad thing is the people getting the stuff ordered with the cards don’t usually know about it being illegal. They think that are helping a company that is moving to the United States. Sad to say the people getting the goods are the ones the cops go after. Third they will use the personal information to order laptops on a pay later plan. Fourth they will resell the personal information to buy more.
Credit car theft is a growing problem, most people who obtain this information are from other countries, sadly people in the US are beginning to find out they can make a lot of money doing it as well. If something isn’t done quickly then this will get out of control. I Know our government can’t keep up with it and we need to take a stand. Watch out what is coming through our emails be careful and stingy with our information. Do what I do when you are surfing online and a site asks for your social security number, date of birth, or other information they don’t need so lie.
