What parents should know about the Facebook worm.

Computer virus seems to take every leap faster than the previous one, just as one anti virus software evolves to take care of the previous worm, another crop up. It has become an enigma for the internet users.

Just as you decide enough is enough, and thought the anti virus software on your child’s laptop would be enough to prevent your child from daily hassles of a “hung computer”, koobface virus has struck. Though, koobface virus was seen to infect internet sites during august’2008, now it’s primarily targeting social networking site, facebook. Koobface virus senders are alluring teenagers on the social networking site; they try to hook on the teenagers by sending appealing e-mails. As a parent you would be at your wits end to figure out what exactly you need to know about this koobface virus.

Just peep at the message “have your body stripped here. Click here”. It sounds interesting; that’s the message he receives on his e-mail account, the message has enough for your child to hook on to it. And then you know what he intends to do, it doesn’t get over just by clicking on the message, there’s more drama here, he is through to the landing page that very much looks like a video sharing website, such as YouTube. He would again come across an enticing line saying “download right now to watch you on the screen”. The game gets over as soon as your child falls for the line.

Downloaded software contains koobface worm virus, very active when you start surfing on search sites of Google and Yahoo, or for that matter any other search engines. It takes you to contaminated sites and can steal personal information which you would like to keep personal.

As a parent of someone who likes to engage on a social networking site, facebook, what steps would you advice your child to undertake as a precautionary measure. Tell him, on the first place, not to download the software. Your child might come up with a reply saying he owns facebook account, how others can access my account. That’s where you need to step in and tell him that koobface virus senders are shrewd enough to hack your account to send an enticing message. If your child somehow has downloaded the enticing content, run the upgraded anti virus version as soon as possible
